Dr. Dmitry S. Ruban, MD

Broke my back and needed fusion done between T10-L2 vertebrae. Dr Ruban was excellent along with his staff and the surgery went flawlessly. This was 6 months ago, feeling great and back to normal no complications!

All went fast and confortable

I specifically sought out Dr Ruban for my lower back surgery and traveled from Florida for my surgery. He was recommended by a friend who had surgery 4 years ago and I am so glad I made the trip! His professionalism and patience to spend time to explain things is beyond anything I have experienced in my 57 years. I am currently 6 weeks post surgery and back to walking 3 to 6 miles a day without the pain and numbness I was experiencing. Excellent job by Dr Ruban! I also want to comment on his staff as well. Everyone in the office was friendly and compassionate each time I was there and were very helpful finding options that worked with my travel to and from the Chicago area. Lauren was also simply awesome in the hospital and during my recovery and follow up. All of my messages were answered promptly and professionally. As for the rest of the Rush Copley staff, I never ran across anyone there in my 2 night stay who wasn’t fantastic! Caring folks around me 24 x 7 there!

Dr. Ruban has performed two micro-discectomies on my lower back due to severe sciatica nerve pain. The first surgery was in 2012 and the pain was relieved immediately and absolutely no pain for recovery. I have had no pain in my left leg since the surgery. This year Dr. Ruban had to do another surgery on the right side of my spine due to the sciatica pain radiating down my right leg. The surgery was a success and the pain is now gone from the right leg. Dr. Ruban and his staff are great to work with and very efficient. I think Dr. Ruban is an outstanding surgeon and would recommend him to anyone with spinal problems.

I have a ruptured disc in my lower back as confirmed by multiple mri's and 2 other surgeons and only correctable by surgery. I informed him that I have been in pain management for a year and it has only worsened. He reviewed the mri and report. He then said that low back surgery has a low success rate and I should pursue pain management. Isn't this surgery what neurosurgeons do? Based on patient reviews he obviously does this surgery. His decision was so wrong and confusing that I can only find one explanation, I am a medicaid patient and he didn't want to do surgery because of this. Finally a good surgeon does not make a good doctor he's a case in point.

It takes days (or weeks, depending how lucky you are) to get in touch with his office people to schedule an appointment at Rush Copley/Aurora. They don't pick up in the morning, they turn off phones for lunch (automated message), then they don't pick up again, they don't return messages and if they see your number calling too many times they simply pick up and hang up on you. Then they turn off their system again at 3:25 to after hours message. During 6 days attempts, multiple calls each day, I was able to speak to human only once. I was told to schedule my tests first and then call back to schedule actual appointment with the doctor. I've been calling ever since to no avail. Simply the worse service I've ever experienced.

I actually already have recommended Dr. Ruban a few times. As far as I'm concerned, he saved my life. Great bedside manner, and as far as him as a Neurosurgeon, here is some useful information. I wanted a second opinion regarding follow-up care, so I met with Dr. Chandler at Northwestern in Chicago. Dr. Chandler is known as the "Best in the Midwest". He looked at my scans, and said the work Dr. Ruban did was perfection, and definitely as good as his own. So, yes, Dr. Ruban is the best.

Dr. Ruban has performed an ACDF on me a couple of weeks ago and also a microdiskectomy on my lumbar spine a few years ago with outstanding results. I highly recommend this amazing surgeon!
