Dr. Dominic Emeka Nkwocha, MD

I was seen at Ridgeview by Dr. Nkwocha. He hardly even looked at me. Only got to talk to him twice. Practically the whole time he was looking down at his paper. I did not feel that he cared. I did not know what to say. Just answer the question and get out. Never got to discuss why any medication was used. Hardly any eye contact. Just had to answer questions (which were not really relevant) and get out. How can someone medicate a patient without really talking to them? You mostly sit in uncomfortable chairs and the only chance to go outside is when people are smoking. They have group sessions, which don’t address much, perhaps listen to a CD meditation and make comments. And you wait forever to see a doctor, who is inattentive when you finally see him. Wait for someone to notice you seem fine and tell the doctor they think you’re ready to go. Witnessing all kinds of craziness and feeling you don’t belong there and there’s no one to really listen to you or treat you. Nurse sometimes… forgot medication and did not believe medical information given or reasons why it feels the medication is wrong. Stuck with bills from being ambulances back and forth from emergency room to Ridgeview as they do often unnecessary tests and rack up several thousand dollars in just a few days, worsening the stressful underlying situation that brought me there.

Being Dr Nkwocha’s patient was hands down the worst medical experience I’ve ever had. His office staff are rude and unhelpful, and they promise to do things and don’t follow through. The doctor himself is highly unethical. It took him ten days after a routine blood test to order my medication, when it only should have taken one, and I very nearly ran out. After this happened three months in a row, I called Dr N to express my concern, and he sternly told me never to contact him about this issue again, and that his staff were the ones in charge of my test results. When his office manager flat out refused to contact the lab, instead of asking her to help me, Dr N told me I would have to obtain the results myself and fax them to him at my own expense. In addition, Dr N was ordering my medication without looking at those test results, which is illegal, not to mention dangerous. I give one star only because I can’t give zero.

Communication with Dr. Nkwocha is terrible. Absolutely horrendous. In my experience, he is condescending, cold, and not at all personable. For background, I was referred to Dr. Nkwocha because of my depression and anxiety. He also knew that I had trouble with sleep. He prescribed me two different medicines that I had never heard of and told me that they would help me to "sleep better." He never told me about side effects. I took them, and they each had a gauntlet of side effects that prevented me from sleeping at all until I stopped taking them. I asked about it in a follow-up appointment, and he casually said something like, "Oh, yeah, those are pretty common side-effects." There was also a period of time when I really needed to hear from his office, and I was told by one of his assistants that he would get back with me within the hour. I did not hear from him for over 36 hours after that, and when I did, there was no apology. As I do not do drugs, I cannot adjudge his ability to… treat patients with drug-related concerns - but I can attest that he is woefully unequipped to deal with mental health patients. Avoid him at all costs.

This business is hands down the most unprofessional and disorganized doctor's office I have ever dealt with. No one answers calls, returns voicemails, checks voicemails. There is no email or internet presence, so no way to communicate via this method. No one calls you to tell you your appointment is delayed or re-scheduled. No one calls to schedule a follow-up appointment, as the doctor promised. No general intake forms to fill out. After a week of calls and voicemails and speaking to several people who verified my order had been called in, my pharmacy informs me the doctor STILL has not called in my Rx. I have been out of pills for days. Utterly deplorable service.

This guy is in this for the money. He is needlessly cruel & disrespectful. Beware.

Wife hospitalized for depression at Ridgeview Institute and he refuses to communicate with her physician husband, period. He says he is too busy seeing patients and making hospital rounds. Totally uncompassionate when it comes to hurting family members. Not his problem.

Despite having a large caseload, Dr. Nkwocha always remembers details about me before opening my chart. He asks questions that show he genuinely cares about my well-being, and he wants to see me using a balanced treatment approach rather than just reaching for the prescription pad. I have a difficult time believing the negative reviews on here; they were from an addiction and psychiatric treatment facility where Dr. Nkwocha works, and the patients were likely in early recovery, thus necessitating taking their comments with a grain of salt. I was saying great things about Dr. Nkwocha one day, and she said he is flat out the best doctor she has worked with (out of over a dozen addiction MDs). Dr. Nkwocha spends as long as I need each visit. He is not quick to rush me out the door like other psychiatrists. I will continue seeing him for as long as my insurance will let me.

Worst behavioral doctor I have ever visited. He told the staff at Ridgeview that I was faking and actually asked me to show him scars from when I cut myself. Unbelievable!

He is a nice man but just gets you in and out.Not sure that he is really listening.Terrible about returning calls and anything involving changing medication.If something happens with your meds after hours-your screwed.He has been flexible with scheduling as I am traveling abroad of often.I appreciate the effort.I believe he is compassionate but is burdened by the ridiculous medical environment of managed care.

He was so attentive and he really listened to what I had to say, then he gave me instruction that has helped me and my life has changes for the better.
