Dr. Don Escarzega-Phan, MD

Awful, awful, awful. He blames everything on weight and treats you like a drug addict without even getting to know your history. His staff is awful. They have no professionalism in their voice when they answer the phone. they answer "Doctor's Office" and don't even say who's speaking. How unprofessional is that! I didn't like the 1st time I met with Phan so I brought my husband with me the next time. Our apt was at 8am and we were the 1st apt of the day. We waited an hour in the room until he finally decided to make an appearance and that was after he saw my husband leave so he could get to work. If were you I would steer clear of this office. There are so many other pain doctors that actually care for their patients. Don't waste your time and effort with them!

Points everything being wrong with you on weight even when the diagnosis of RA and Fibromyalgia can happen to a skinny person too. They were supposed to send over a prescription for pain meds while waiting on another med to be approved by insurance and never did. Was in pain over the weekend due to this even after leaving numerous messages. Will not recommend this office to anyone.

The office manager is a patient profiler and when she doesn't like you, she gets great enjoyment out of things that don't go your way. She was rude from the beginning.

My review is about his office staff. When my husband and I walked in to check in for his appointment/lower back injections, the girl at the front desk looked at us and just said with a negative tone "it's going to be a longer wait". I asked for a approximate waiting time so I could make further arrangements for my kids, (when I asked how long it was going to take during the first initial appointment, we were told 30 minutes) so I made arrangements for 2 hours just in case, but that's why I asked the front desk for an approximate time to ensure my kids would be taken care of. Unfortunately at that point another girl said, "well, I hate giving time predictions, we are behind by 7 patients and the doctors is rushing as much as he can." I felt that it was not an appropriate answer when you are dealing with your spine! So I told her, I hope he is not rushing through a procedure like this; her answer was, "well, you can be last so that there is no rush in the Doctors part at all". We… ended up being last, not by choice; the front desk took all patients back first even though they had later appointments. We were seen two hours later. This is by far the worst experience at a Doctors facility we've ever experienced. Very unfortunate because the Doctor himself is a very nice person and a great at what he does. His staff should respect his career and treat his patients with more kindness. I decided to not even say anything to them out of respect to my husband and the pain he was in. I am a pretty calm person and I don't do negative reviews online because I understand that sometimes things just happen, but wow! Not this time, not when it comes to health care. His staff should be at par with the Doctor.

Treated I was a junkie after 3 years billed for things that was never done will be turning over this info to bcbs never go there glad I found a very good doctor. They make up things that are in your test never go here.

Dr Phan is compassionate and really knows his job. I highly recommend him for back pain. Best Doctor Ever!

I'm a nurse and i've been seeing dr p for 2 years now. I was in a car accident which left me with ruptured back discs. I've had 3 surgeries total for fix this but I still had a TON of pain. I've been to 4 different docs and dr p is the most thourough of them. I got a new MRI which showed that the disc above my fusion herniated. He also weaned me to Oxy 10 from Oxy 30 over months which was making me too tired and not able to work. I do get shots in my back once every 6 months are so when my back flares up. I only take enough meds to get me through the day. I feel like most of these negative reviews are from people overtaking their drugs. At my hospital, pain patients are the WORST. They don't listen and run out of their meds, showing up at the ER asking for morphine shots. Get over it people! Cut down the drugs and do something with your life. Doctors, nurses, NPs, PAs, are there to help you. Stop complaning and get the real help you need. There are a couple rehab places that can help… you get off heavy narcotics. Suboxone is a good option.

I am a Professional....In a very serious field of work. Legal. I have been going to Phan for almost a year. He is a poor excuse of a Dr. Of course, many people assume, if a patient complains about their pain Dr...Then the Dr. isn't allowing them to get high. Not the case. I'm in serious chronic pain. I've had multiple surgeries, injections, modalities, PT, E-stim, massage, etc. I have tried everything. I go to Phan who doesn't mind throwing the Oxy's at you to use. In fact, he would rather give you the oxy scripts than the lortab pills. He frequently makes up "laws" that restrict him from written you a second RX so you dont have to come back to him in a month. He refuses to give any refills unless he charges for another office visit and co-pay. He askes frequently if I am out of pills. I say no and then get drug tested in his office proving I am still taking the meds as prescribed. He essentially called me a liar to my face. I wanted to punch the little arrogant fool in the face. You… cannot assume things about a patient because of your paranoia. He has problems counting. He frequently writes a script with the instructions of taking four a day. He expects to see you back in 31 days,,,,Yes, I said 31. Not 28, 29, or 30. Always, and I mean always, he schedules to see you 2-5 days after you would have ran out of meds, if he had give you 120 to begin with. He will scribe you 75 or 100, to be taken 4 x's a day for 30 days. Dr. 75 or 100 divided by four isn't 30 days. How hard is it to count. This forces you to move up your appt. Not your seeing this jerk every 25 days. To top it off, he then accuses you of taking all your pills early and showing up because you ran out. REALLY? What is wrong with you phan? Lower case intentional. Like most pain Dr's, their happy to stick you with needles and charge you out the yin-yang. I have had about 150 injections. ESI, Facet, Trigger-point, and dry-needling...Painful. This guy is a loser. Dr. I hope you read this. When a patient who has been in chronic pain for years, has medical documents proving physiological and mechanical injuries which cause pain, asks you for help, you don't say, "I think your having abuse problems with the meds". People, yes Dr., People come to you for help. You have failed them. Like the other reviewer stated. If you see a positive review, the B at the front desk probably posted it.
