He's never focused on His Patient. Eats like a pig in front of you and pops pills

Horrible experience.

This guy has the WORST professional boundaries I have ever encountered. I scheduled an appointment with him a month in advance, and when I arrived I was told he'd lost his appointment book so didn't know I was coming but if I was willing to wait he'd try and see me. So I waited. And waited. And waited. At one point he asked me if I would mail off a prescription for another patient at a local post office for him, then decided that he should do it himself - so he locked me in his office and said he would meet with me when he got back. He then met with me for 40 minutes, talked mostly about himself and his own issues, and then told me to come back a week later to "finish the appointment" so he could write me a prescription. My appointment was for 1:15pm, and we ended up meeting at 6:20pm - I spent the entire five hours waiting in his office, because he made me think he would get to me soon. I was at the tail end of insurance coverage so needed to see him in order to have a renewed… prescription before my insurance ran out, or else I would have left. He also shared inappropriate details about other patients with me (he did not use names, but I shouldn't be hearing ANYTHING about his clients!). He seems to know his stuff about medications, but the man has profoundly unhealthy professional boundaries. I was instructed to call ahead of time for my follow up appointment, and was told that another patient had been severely late for her appointment but he still needed to see her, so could I come later? He asked me to call half an hour later (at the time of my appointment) to see where he was at with her - she still hadn't arrived yet, so he asked me to push my appointment back AGAIN by another hour. We'll see if he's actually ready for me when I show up this time. He may be good with medications, and he is very kind, but he's extremely scattered, profoundly unprofessional, and borders on breaking HIPPA laws on a regular basis. No boundaries whatsoever.

This man should be in a psychiatric institution himself. He speaks freely about his own mental issues and self-treatment. A complete and utter quack. Run away as fast as you can. DO NOT SEE THIS DR.

Within the first appointment, Dr. H was able to diagnosis my complicated medical needs. My diagnosis was extreme and I saw him once a week for approximately 6 months. I went from totally dysfunctional to recovering an active productive life. Dr. H may take calls during an appointment, however, sometimes that was me on the other end of the phone. Dr. H's brilliance outweighs an extended wait time when with another patient. Many times that patent that needed the extra time was me. I believe Dr. H is truly gifted in his psychiatric specialities

Dr Hirowitz showed up over an hour late to my first appointment. On the second appointment, he ran over my time with another patient and then informed me a woman would be coming in in fifteen minutes. For the third appointment, I waited in the reception area for over thirty minutes. I then knocked in the door. It appeared that he had been sleeping in his office. This man should not be practicing. He obviously has serious personal issues and absolutely no respect for the patient's time. Moreover, the sessions are constantly interrupted by phone calls, which he takes since he doesn't have any staff. He is a nightmare. Stay away.

I arrived to my first appointment to find a note on the door to meet him in the coffee shop (there are three coffee shops within a block). After 30 minutes I found him sitting in the restaurant located downstairs from his practice, sitting with another patient. He invited me to sit down with them while he concluded his session. After the other patient left, he attempted to conduct my session in the crowded restaurant. After 15 minutes, he finally realized I was visibly uncomfortable and asked if I wanted to go back to his office. Once upstairs at his office door, he asked for my insurance card and then, leaving his rolling suitcase in front of the locked office door, ran off to a neighboring tenant's office where he left my insurance card for them to copy. At this point he noticed he had left his patient files down in the restaurant, so he ran back down to the restraint to retrieve them. All the while, his rolling suitcase sat in the hall. When he returned, he retrieved my insurance… card from the neighbor. Finally in possession of my insurance information, his patient files, and his suitcase, he unlocked his door and led me inside the small office. The next several hours was a display of unparalleled unprofessionalism. I listened to him talk about his other patients. I listened to him talk about how he could "handle" insurance and disability claims. I listened to him tell me that he was the only one who could "fix" me. I answered the same questions over and over as he attempted to take notes while frequently nodding off, awakened only by his own snoring. I was mortified, and completely unsure of what to do. Finally, when he dropped his pen and his snoring could no longer compel him to open his eyes, I stood to leave. He heard me as I opened the door. He asked me to come back and sit down. Clearly irritated, I complied. He asked how I felt to which I responded that I thought he was loaded. He (unconvincingly) assured me he was not. Then the conversation turned to the topic of medication. I indicated that I had never been a big fan of psychiatric medication, given the guesswork involved in finding the right combination, but recognized that sometimes it is necessary. He then prescribed 4 different medications, giving me samples of all 4...samples which came out of other patients prescription bottles pulled from the rolling suitcase which had been left in the hall...a suitcase stuffed full of pill bottles. He loaded the pills into unmarked prescription bottles and handed them to me, encouraging me to try them right there. Four hours after this nightmare began, I found myself back in my car relaying the ridiculous situation to my primary doctor. Needless to say, I did not return for a second visit.

He is unclean. Wears dirty clothes and He smells bad. Gives me other patients leftover medications. Does not listen. Falls asleep in sessions.

This man truly cares about the people he works with. He is one of the kindest, most knowledgeable doctors I have ever seen and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who is seeking help with either medications or therapeutic intervention. He is available 24/7 which is not true for most psychiatrists, and he is willing to listen, not just write out a prescription after a five minute review and send you on your way, as has been my most common experience with others. It's too bad that some people have dismissed him because of expectations and haven't given him a real chance, they might have been surprised by what was hidden beneath the surface!

Dr Horowitz is very good with Bipolar Depression. It took a little while but he worked with me to get me on the right meds and I hardly need to see him anymore.I suggest highly if you have an Organic Condition. He's extremely busy so appointments can be cut short and he'll probably be late.
