Dr Mayekawa was not a physician chosen by us. Cedars picked him out of a hat for my mother who was told she would need an IVC filter placed following spine surgery. At the time of the procedure, a very frightened vulnerable patient was told this procedure is absolutely necessary, that this device would be placed and removed within 6 months. Blindly without knowing any other option she agreed. Fast forward 3 months and now its time to remove the device. At this time she is told that there is a 50% chance that he will not be able to remove it. Do a little research and within seconds you find out the dangers of such devices remaining in the body that in and of itself will cause the very thing it is meant to prevent which is blood clots and the device itself has the potential of separating and causing fatal consequences. Every doctor we spoke to expressed importance of removal. Well after two failed attempts of removal Dr Mayekawa just shrugged his shoulders and said well this happens… and there is basically nothing he can do. His lack of empathy and poor chair side manner only made matters worse. Well guess what these devices are removable, you just need to find a knowledgeable capable physician to do it. My mothers device was removed yesterday by a team at UCLA. When the device was removed they were shocked at the large size of the device. Moral of the story is that at 64 my mother is young enough to outlive the device that would more than likely fail in the future at which time her age will work against her. Be careful what you have placed in your body and who puts it in.

I was very impressed with dr. mayekawa. my mother was seen by him in radiology after she had been in the hospital for over a month with compications, after she had her gull bladder removed. Dr. afte Dr. Ct Scan after ct scan, my mother was not getting any better, she was getting discouraged, we "the family" didn't know if we should check her out of kindred where she was taken a week after she had been at centinela hospital. "because of insurance purposes" We were all hopeless, tired and most of all frustrated. Dr. Mayekawa came along and preformed severall procedures after a ct scan performed because of new fever. He came and explained to us everything he found wrong with my mother after ct scan and before conducting procedure. After procedure he came back and explained what and how he did until we understood it. Other drs in the facility didnt even bother to hurry and let us know nor return ph call after we had phomed his private practice to find out results.
