Dr. Donald William Payne, MD

I am not surprised that Dr. Payne has bad reviews. I too had an unpleasant visit with him last summer during a Baptist East Hospital ER run. He was nothing but sarcastic and snarky. He was quick to brush off my questions and concerns. The ER is stressful in itself and you are there looking for expert advise, he is sure to deliver the opposite of that. If you are needing a doctor that has a bit of compassion and professionalism, take yourself to any ER other than Baptist East, where Dr. Payne practices.

He treated my mother in the ER at the hospital. My elderly mother had a crushing headache and had suffered a stroke several months earlier so we went to the ER. Fortunately, her diagnosis was not another stroke but Dr. Payne seemed to get very put out when she asked for a different pain medication than he had ordered. He seemed very irritated and curt. When I asked something he totally ignored me. I suppose being an ER doctor isn't the most desirable job but I'm sure it isn't any easier for the nurses and they were wonderfully patient and kind
