I told Dr. Spisak I had been taking amlodipine 10mg and benazapril for HTN. I had stopped taking it three months prior to see what my BP was without meds, and because I was in between PCP's. So, for my BP he ordered amlodipine 5mg. Why didn't I debate the med orders? I have adhesive arachnoiditis and hadn't slept in days due to pain, which I take no meds for. I also had a badly torn meniscus. I had in the past taken restoril for sleep with good success. He said he would order zyprexa for sleep. An anti-psychotic?!?! My serotonin and other neurotransmitters are, I just can't sleep because of severe pain. I also had swelling in my ear and my neck lymph nodes. He said he would order a neck CT. He failed to do so. I called the office three times. I told one of his nurses I had pre-auricular and submandibular node swelling. She asked if it was in my lumbar spine?!?! I am a critical care RN, I worked for years at the Baptist Hospital SICU and then at Avalon Hospice. They… never did order the neck CT and I ended up having to go to the ER with my face and neck severely swollen to get a CT.

As a patient for several years, coming every 90 days as directed, to maintain good standing, I found Dr. Spisak personable and not a stiff coat individual. Recommended him to others, but some of the staff seemed to think they were the ones in charge. All worked okay though until a flare hospitalized me. Upon release from the hospital, was not able to see Dr. Spisak even after the hospitalist had called about immediate follow-up being a condition of release from the hospital. Be strong, as you will NOT be seen after messing up their routine. Whether the routine was established by Skyline Hospital or by Dr. Spisak and his staff, if you truly want and need a primary provider to trust and see over your care beyond routine office visits, then this may not be the most reliable place, especially if you have a critical event such as asthma or heart episodes only once every few years as you have been vigilant with medications and follow-ups. Realize that you certainly can and… will receive better and more professional treatment elsewhere and that most medical professionals treat their patients with more respect than encountered from this medical office personnel. Excellent immediate and active care is available without "routines" to be met at walk-in urgent care centers as well as other hospitals, until you find a reliable provider that can care for you beyond routine 90 day visits. The nurses in this practice have ZERO compassion for patients, and are quick to be rude with patients. It's hard to say whether the doctor totally lacks compassion or not, since you can't get past the nurses to see him when ill, but one must surmise that the physician sets the standard . Be aware and hopefully you will find a physician outside the TriStar Skyline Family Practice that will care enough to see you following emergency hospitalization. You can receive far more actual help, concern, compassion and true follow-up from many such locations than you will ever receive as a long term patient of this practice.

Dr. Spisak is a wonderful doctor! I drive an hour so I can be seen by him and he is the first doctor to give me answers on my medical issues. Very nice guy, is actually concerned with patients and their issues!
