Dr. Dong-Wouk Park, MD

I was referred to Dr. Park with the understanding that he was a specialist in my rare autoimmune disorder. Upon arrival, he peeked in the exam room to say he would be in to see me after imaging. Dr. Park was obviously very ill. He could barely speak, was coughing, and appeared generally unwell. There was much disorganization and confusion in the office that day. I ended up needing to go back and forth for "photography" of my eyes multiple times, due to Dr. Park's incorrect instructions. The tech were very nice under the circumstances, but flustered at the disorganization and backlog of patients. After over an hour of back and forth, Dr. Park finally came in. He was immediately unpleasant. He discounted my health history and said nothing was wrong with me. Since he was quite rude with me, I was very surprised. I asked him if he was OK and if he was ill. He nodded yes and stated he was not feeling well. Again, he coukdl barely speak. I mentioned that he should not be seeing patients… in clinic if he is sick, considering the current flu, RSV, and COVID situation. I explained that I am immunocompromised due to my medical treatment. I also emphasized that I have an upcoming surgical procedure and cannot risk catching a bug pre-op. He became quite rude and condescending. He pulled up Microsoft Word and typed that he would type out communication with me. I mentioned that would not help since he was still breathing and coughing through his thin mask. He the stood up and opened the door asking if that would make me feel better. Being in an extremely tiny ophthalmology exam room, opening a door would not provide any circulation. Dr. Parks' actions went completely against standard infection control processes. As he continued to discount my medical history, I mentioned that I was supposed to be seeing a specialist in ocular immunology, which I assumed he was - he is not. He mentioned the name of the physician who is the specialist at OHSU. I asked Dr. Park if he would provide me a referral to that physician. Dr. Park refused, stating the doctor is only in clinic one day a week and he knows the doc would NOT see me. He went on to say that OHSU is an academic medical center and the docs focus on research and NOT patient care. I was shocked. I have been seeing providers here for several years and they all have been VERY caring and have followed me long-term. Finally, since my glasses broke, I asked Dr, Park for a print out of my previous prescription. Dr. Park stated he would charge me between $150 - $200 for the print out, which my insurance would not pay for. I stated that was not correct. I received a copy at my last visit without any issue. He suggested that I log into MyChart and print out a copy myself. I ultimately left the visit in shock. This was a very disappointing visit which potentially placed me, other patients and clinic staff at risk of illness. This is NOT the level of care and compassion I have previously received at OHSU.

We went to the Casey Eye Institute to try and get an eye test for vertical heretophoria, which he was immediately confrontational about and dismissive of. He showed us how the test for heteroTROPIA works, but he kept calling it "heteroPHOBIA," and seemed to be under the impression that he was showing us the test for heteroPHORIA. He then told us we didn't need an eye test because he says blind people can ride bikes using "echolalia," and how disability isn't real and is just learned helplessness because Babe Ruth was blind in one eye. He was disrespectful, condescending, and most importantly, did not actually administer an eye test, merely a self-important and unprofessional lecture.
