Dr. Donn Ryo Marutani, MD

When I was visiting Hawaii I saw Dr. Marutani on an emergency basis. He was patient, kind, knowledgeable, and asked a lot of questions. The examination was thorough and complete. I was treated like an old friend.

Dr. Marutani and his staff are a God send. I am a colon Cancer survivor and super careful and sensitive about any changes to my digestive system. However, after eating a pre-packaged salad at Ala Moana, I started feeling sick and began violently throwing up for two days. Shortly after throwing up, I began bleeding out of my rectum. My wife was very concerned because of my history with colon cancer so she contacted (MY) GI doctor. With time passing quickly and with no response from MY GI doctor, my wife suggested we call (HER) GI doctor. When we called, Jenny immediately answered the phone and we explained to her our situation. Jenny transferred us to Jasmine who along with Jenny recognized the urgency and scheduled an appointment to see Dr. Marutani. Dr. Marutani is a no nonsense knowledgeable and kind doctor. He immediately inspected and assessed my bleeding condition and prescribed medication for treatment. Dr Marutani also called me the following day in the evening, after a day of… surgeries to let me know that my blood work came back normal. I cannot give Doctor Marutani and his staff enough praise. I am now definitely more comfortable doing colonoscopies in the hands of Dr. Marutani and I consider him my new doctor. Dan Sparks

The wait time was minimal and Dr. Marutani was thorough and explained things well. He also followed up without my even having to call him first. I would recommend this doctor.

I would give him negative stars if I could. He bullies patients into having surgeries NOW because he said so. It doesn't matter when you can or if you can the day he wants to. He demanded I call whoever it is I had to because he wanted to schedule the surgery this instance. He wanted to obtain my records from another hospital. He repeatedly harassed me by calling me at my home and on my cell. His workers are so delusional to think he would ever harass his patients. I almost had to have a T.R.O. issued against him. Is this the Dr you want for yourself or loved ones?

He starts off nice, but after he's borderline crazy to the point of harassment. His tactics are threatening & should not be allowed to practice medicine. Time & time again I've heard personal stories from former patients of his & all were frightening. He misdiagnosis' people & he talks down to patients.

I have never been treated so poorly by a physician in my life. Was treated like a number not a person. No bedside manner whatsoever. Waited well over an hour for my office appointment only to be rushed in and out of the office. Was going to cancel my procedure based on my experience at the office but didn't want to have to go through finding another doctor and rescheduling etc. On the day of my procedure he showed up hours late and I had to wait 4 hours with an IV stuck into me. This was after no food for almost 24 hours and nothing to drink for 9 hours. Never said hello before the procedure or apologized for being late and never said anything afterward. Other patients were upset as well. Doesn't call or make an appointment to go over results. Sends a cheap "form letter" with written-in results. Never again.
