I saw Dr. Wylie for the delivery of my daughter in 2006. At the time she was was practicing with a clinic called Aspen Women's Center in Provo. The problems? - Her office staff was incompetent as well as rude. They failed to update my insurance information when I told them to, then acted as though it was my fault and insisted I had to give the new info to their lab myself. - There was a poorly-punctuated sign in the waiting room telling patients they could not have a "doulah"-assisted birth, a "birth contract" (I think they meant "birth plan"), or use the Bradley method, due to patient "safety." Given the established benefits of doula support during labor, I find this a little less than ethical in retrospect. - Wait times were always more than an hour, yet I would only see Dr. Wylie for maybe 5 minutes during an appointment. But here's the real problem that I had with Dr. Wylie. I told her in advance that I did not want an episiotomy. Was extremely clear that every… alternative to episiotomy should be tried before giving me one. She acted like this was a stupid request and basically told me that episiotomies only happen when they're inevitable. After 10-20 minutes of pushing, Dr. Wylie said she was going to use the forceps. She did NOT tell me that episiotomy is routine with forceps, so my consent to forceps was far from informed. I had a very-functional epidural, so there is no reason she could not have discussed this with me. Then when she was removing the forceps, she said, "And a *small* episiotomy to get the forceps out." The episiotomy she cut was a standard 2nd degree mid-line. In what sense is that "small"?? Small would be 1st degree, large would be 3rd or 4th degree. The "small" part was a lie to get me to consent to something she knew I did not want. I suffered from dyspareunia for three years after having that episiotomy. Did not learn that episiotomy is routine with forceps until years later. There were other things that bothered me about how my labor was handled. We augmented with Pitocin and breaking my waters, yet no one informed me of the risks of those things. I was still in very early labor, so I'm not sure why there was any need to rush outside of impatience. When she said she was going to break my water, I asked for an explanation of the procedure. Her only response was to say "Magic wand" with a smirk and then do it. Sorry, but if you're going to put something into my vagina and I ask you about what it is, my attitude is that you should probably give an answer to the question. A real one. I just had a very lovely hospital birth with a wonderful and supportive team that really communicated with me, answered my questions, and respected my wishes. Had a doula and she was marvelous. When it became clear that I would need another assist to deliver my 9 lb 5 oz posterior son, my providers chose the vacuum extractor so that we could do it without another episiotomy. It was a world of difference from my experience with Dr. Wylie. I'm glad that other people have had a good experience with her, and if she has left Aspen Women's Center, maybe some of these other problems are no longer issues. But the birth of my daughter was traumatizing, and I largely credit Dr. Wylie with that.

What an amazing doctor! She delivered all 6 of my children. I would recommend her to anyone. She is very knowledgeable and is always finding new ways to improve her skills

Dr. Wylie delivered both of my children and I had a wonderful experience both times. She was very friendly to me and was good to spend enough time to answer all questions. Although I did have some long waits in the office, I figured she spent time with her other patients like she did with me.
