Dr. Donna Thomas Moses, DDS

I was a patient at Moses' office for years. It was so long I can't remember exactly how long it was. I did everything just the way she and the hygienists recommend I do. I did so well, in fact, that Moses declared I was a model patient, and complimented me for doing such great work at home. 3 years ago I had a devastating work injury to my face, requiring extensive surgery at Grady trauma center, then after care. Months later I was diagnosed with a spot on my liver and had surgery for that, and then after care. All the while, I tried to work when possible, and with all that going on I inadvertently missed a single appointment at Moses' office. At the next appointment I explained to the hygienist why I missed the last time. She worked on me less than 10 minutes (as I said, I did great work at home), and advised me that Moses would be in soon. About 15 minutes later Moses finally came in, and angrily admonished me for missing the appointment at her office. When I went to pay for… the visit I was surprised to learn I was charged $540. I asked the receptionist why it was so much, considering I generally had to pay about $150, and I was advised that Moses had charged me as a new patient. After all those years of being a good patient I inadvertently miss an appointment due to medical issues and the associated stress, and she gets mad about it, acts like a petulant child, and charges me as a new patient. I'll never use her again, as there are plenty of periodontists in the area.

I have been a patient of Dr. Moses for almost two years now. I have gum recession caused by grinding my teeth at night. On the bottom left side of my mouth, the recession was the worst. This summer, I had gum grafting surgery by Dr. Moses. I was completely freaked out by the thought of this surgery - everything I heard was how painful it was, difficult to recover, can't eat, etc. During the surgery, they take tissue from the roof of your mouth and stitch it in wherever you have recession. The roof of your mouth also has stitches. Sounds awful, right? I chose to have nitrous for the surgery. It's a bit extra, but it is worth it. It certainly relaxes you and makes you feel calm during the surgery. (And, because the surgery takes about two hours and I'm freaked out by dental procedures, why wouldn't you??) From the minute the nitrous started, I never felt any pain during the surgery. I mean NONE. Dr. Moses makes sure that you are completely numb before she begins. They make a splint… you wear on the top of your mouth that protects the removal site. You can wear it as long as you like. I wore mine for two weeks, all the time and only when I ate for two more weeks. After a week, the stitches come out from where the gum is grafted. You'll experience some tenderness where the tissue was taken. Even now, after 3 months, the roof of my mouth is sensitive to extreme hot and cold but that's easy to live with. I won't lie: it's uncomfortable to have any surgery in your mouth. But I never experienced any real pain during or after the surgery. Dr. Moses makes sure that your pain is managed. I was amazed at how fast I recovered with such little pain and SO happy with the surgery. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. My graft is now nice and healthy, much to my relief. Anything you can do to save your teeth and bone will be worth it in the long run. I have always been comfortable with Dr. Moses and her staff as they are extremely professional and supportive. I highly recommend this team!
