Dr. Dorothee Mecum, MD

Dr Mecum went out of town without filling my prescriptions... BUT, she had me taking Klonopin 3x daily which is highly addictive, people can literally die from stopping it immediately without weaning off. I tried to have the lady working the front desk reach her on vacation to refill my medication and she was unable to. this went on for 5 days. I suffer from mental illness, it runs in my family and my mother had committed suicide a couple years prior and I share the same problems she had. I had been taking Klonopin for 8 years when Dr Mecum went out of town and since she could not be reached (or maybe bothered?) on her vacation I had to go "cold turkey". I can't tell you how hard this was, I was very close to taking my life. Stopping Klonopin or any Benzo so abruptly is BRUTAL, especially for someone with my issues. I called every day to try and fix this and some days I called twice, her receptionist was extremely rude to me during one of the hardest things I've ever been thru. After… the 5th day I finally gave up, I didn't sleep or eat ANYTHING for 8 days and that is not an exaggeration. I could not believe that any psychiatrist would allow this to happen and I was so disappointed. I never received an apology or an explanation, and I decided to find a different Dr because I could not go back to one that would do me like that.

Dr. Mecum is very kind and understanding. She has a disarming, non-threatening demeanor and her office environment is calm, quiet, and organized. She took time to get to know me and my background and never made me feel like she was in a rush. I would definitely recommend Dr. Mecum to anyone looking for a psychiatric care in northwest Arkansas.
