Dr. Dorothy Lyles Mellon, MD

This is a review of the office staff only, as I gave up trying to see Dr. Mellon and during the wait for my appointment, received a referral to a different office. After showing up for the appointment early and completing paperwork prior to the appointment time, we proceeded to wait for 30 minutes. Asked the receptionist how much longer and was told another 15 minutes. Walked out to the parking lot and received a call they were ready. Thinking that was a nice touch, I immediately returned from the 2 minute trek to the car to wait another 20 minutes before leaving. Dr. Mellon may be a fantastic doctor, but her staff is bottom of the barrel and will hurt her business.

I would NOT recommend going to this office. The office staff is externally unorganized, test, appointments etc never scheduled right. I think Dr. Mellon is adequate, bed side manner is not great. But her husband that works the front desk is unprofessional and rude.

I believe that Doctor Mellon is a good physician. The majority of the office staff are horrible. Procedures that were not requested and to some extent not preformed were charged and not made known. They will not give you your medical records as required by law. They break HIPAA on what seems like a daily basis. I have a complaint in with the Office of Civil Rights.

Dr Melon is a very thorough and caring doctor. She listened and did tests to rule out serious problems and was able to provide treatment and practical suggestions to help me successfully manage a chronic sinus and headache issue that I had battled for several years.

The office staff was extremely rude and even hung up on me when we were talking about an appointment! I will never go here again!

She was assigned to me when I was admitted to ICU. Upon our first meeting she accused me of being an intravenous drug user and told me how much easier her job would be if I would just admit it. I was shocked! I already had been diagnosed with a rare disease (not caused by drug use), had been put on medications for it, had been told I didn't even have a 50/50 chance of survival due to being so septic and my blood pressure being so dangerously low, and had been in ICU for more than 24 hours before she decided to make an appearance, and the first thing she says to me is an accusation of drug use (in my jugular vein no less-do people actually do that!?) and then basically telling me she wanted an easy answer-horrible doctor! Horrible bed side manner!! I remember being shocked and half laughing in my almost dead state, and telling her I was not, My sister, thankfully, took over that conversation with this quack of a doctor. It was only during that conversation between my sister and Dr… Mellon that she decided to introduce herself to us. Shortly after that conversation I was taken off the medications that cure the disease I had, only to be put immidiately back on them (with strict orders to not take me back off them due to the fact I would die without the medication) after the original ENT that caught and diagnosed me came by to check on me, out of curiosity, a couple days later. Thankfully he kept a close eye on my case from that point forward. He saved me from the possibility of serious consequences (to include death) from a surgery Dr Mellon wanted to perform via slicing through my neck. He suggested an alternative, a safer way to access the area needing surgery, and came to me to make the decision, from what I gathered due to Dr Mellon refusing to consider it-although much safer, it made her job much harder because she would have a smaller space to work in. She is terrible, and I will add that although she was the ENT assigned to my case (it took a few days to finally get the hospital to take her off, even though I requested it daily), she only came to see me that one time in my room. Do please note that I had numerous specialists and doctors assigned to me and each of them would come at the very least once per day to see me. I also had numerous doctors visit me that were not on my case to educate themselves as to what a patient with my rare disease looked like. (Lol, I just looked really ill and really pale and couldn't move much without help.) I would NEVER recommend her, and absolutely would NOT trust her with my life or anyone else's. Now, all of that being said, that was my own experience with Dr Mellon, and I did have an extremely rare disease, and to my knowledge I am the only person to have ever gotten this disease in Arkansas. She very well might be a good doctor, and probably has helped and can help numerous people with common issues ENTs deal with in NWA. I, personally, would never recommend her and believe her to have her own best interests at heart, not the patient's best interest. I would definitely not recommend using her in a hospital setting, regardless.

Found her easy to talk to & she explained what she was doing and why she was doing procedure. Her staff was courteous.

When I called to ask a few questions regarding my thyroid CAT scan results and requested to speak to the nurse, the staff was extremely rude, shouted at me several times, and was very condescending stating â??of course donâ??t be ridiculousâ??, they continued to speak to me as if I had done something very wrong by asking any sort of question. When I asked why I was being spoken to so rudely, she continued to rant and yell at me and in the end, the staff, still not the nurse whom I had requested to speak to multiple times, stated that she would be cancelling all future appointments for me and hung the phone up on me. I have never in my 37 years been treated so rudely, and was utterly shocked that I was spoken to in that manner from a staff person at an ENT doctor's office. Very upsetting!

I went through a year of misery and four other doctors (including my primary of more than twenty years). Initially, an eardrum ruptured. In that year I was placed on a wide variety of antibiotics - at least ten different antibiotics for recurrent or unresolved infections. Often, the antibiotics were given because the doctor knew I wanted something done - not because they felt there was a problem. Some even said so, "I don't see anything but I'll give you...". I declined pain medications. I wanted the source of the pain addressed. I had my eardrums rupture twice more, ongoing discomfort in my ear/jaw/sinus areas for a year!!! The last visit to my Bella Vista doctor (who has since retired) was a 2 minute cursory peek in my ears and a "There's nothing wrong." I left that office tearful and doubting my sanity. I was in pain and there was no reason? Later, someone said go see Dr. Mellon. I had no high hopes. First visit, she did an actual ear,throat and sinus exam and low and… behold...major staph infection raging in there! I'm better today. I love Dr. Mellon. Her bedside manner is gentle and unpretentious. She's just plain kind. Her nurse, Wendy, is awesome. Her staff is great. Not a rude one among them. Dr. Mellon has been a blessing in my life and I do give thanks for her!

Spent more time with me than any other doctor I have seen.
