Dr. Dorrie Bernstein, PhD

This is my perspective of the story. I worked with Dorrie Bernstein for a long time. She's dedicated, knows how to execute her ideas, and cared about me. However, as I got older I realized I wanted to be in charge of my own education. Psychoeducational evaluations are useful for some people but they didn't help me. I was evaluated because my family wanted to know why I was doing poorly in math and science, BUT the real reason was I didn't want to work hard and adjust to high school. Of course, no one believed me. Let's not forget the idea of neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to form new neural connections. Evaluations are just a snapshot of an individual at ONE point in time. I think these evaluations contribute to the idea of education as a commodity in our society and people just blindly following authority. After hating being evaluated, I realized I like to deviate from the status quo and I know myself very well. An evaluation doesn't truly encapsulate one's ability to learn… information because it doesn't consider the future self. Always remember to think holistically about the situation and think about the long term implications an evaluation will create. Education matters but so does creativity. If you overthink, you're a THINKER and the world needs more thinkers. Be good at LIFE, not just school.

Be very circumspect if you're her client because sometimes she can be too fervent about education and her job.
