Dr. Dougald C Macgillivray, MD

Dr. MacGillivray i an excellent surgeon who cares very much about his patients. His surgical talent & skill is the very best. My case was a wee bit more involved once the operation got started but he handled it without any problems and I've had no problems since the operation. Thank you Dr. MacGillivray, you're awesome!

I have had two surgeries performed by Dr. Macgillvary, one in 2013 and one recently. My experience is that he is an outstanding surgeon. My surgeries went smoothly and without complication. Dr. Macgillvary is not a chatty guy, but he answered all of my questions. Both times he followed up and spoke with my contact person after the surgery was over and he checked on me in my room at the hospital after my first surgery. I don't need my surgeon to be the life of the party. I want him to be at the top of his game and Dr. Macgillvary is all of that.

Although the surgery went well, I got an infection during surgery that required many return visits, a reopening of incision site etc. Dr M treated this like it was an everyday occurrence, no compassion and no explanation. At 2 week f/u I Saw him for 1 minute and never would have gotten info re surgery if I hadn’t asked. He overbooks, you wait for hours. NPs are a better bet in his office.

Horrible wait times. People need to show up to work on time. No God complexes either.

I had many anxieties going into this surgery. I met with Dr Macgillivray for only 10 min in his office. I didn't see him before the surgery and I didn't see him after it either. I met with his assistant and she was clueless as to what was done to me or anything else. I was left with many questions. What was done during the surgery? Where there any complications? Was I to remain on the same medications as I had been on before? What was I going to expect after I went home? Questions I asked his assistant and she was unhelpful. Unaware of what was done to me or any complications I didn't see her again. Im 3 days past the surgery and Im still left with unanswered questions. If I had known this is what I would have been met with I would have gotten a different surgeon. I did run into Dr. Macgillivray the day I was discharged and leaving the hospital and he acted as though he was to busy to even be concerned about me. I feel as though I was treated as a paycheck and not a patient. If you are… even considering Dr. Macgillivray I would highly stress that you look around for another surgeon. Look for someone who actually cares about your well being and will remain with you through ALL of the surgery process. Not someone who pushes a clueless assistant on you.

Professional, kind demeanor and took the time to ensure I understood my situation and his medical approach. The PA and Staff were all highly competent, thoughtful and helpful.

Not a feel good physician, harsh and relegated every part of communication to staff. A patient has to beg for information from staff. Should not be working in an EMR system. Does not do typing or computors. His writing can't be read. Did not talk to me after surgery and did not communicate how the surgery went. Did not speak/call my loved one after surgery. Does not follow up on patients after surgery. Says he does see patients after surgery but does not record and then says the patient was still asleep!

I required mergency surgery to correct the mistake he made during the initial surgery, which left me bleeding internally for over 2 weeks, and he and his staff ignored my pleas.
