Dr. Douglas Wayne Barrett, MD

After first diagnostic visit, was ready to incorrectly treat me for migraine (19 shots), even though I was there for torticollis. Didn't treat correct muscles in neck with botox, so two subsequent treatments had NO effect. My insurance paid him over $10,000.00 but that wasn't enough. His office continues to bill me around $400.00 for ineffective treatments. I would not recommend this Doctor.

I have been a patient of Dr. Barrett's for over five years. It took me some time to warm up to him. He is task oriented and I feel that he is competent. My first visit with him was a little rough, I need to own part of that as I am pretty sensitive. I need a Doctor that I have confidence in their Medical knowledge. His bedside manner isn't the best but I have definitely had worse. Over the past couple of years I have developed a strong respect for his knowledge and expertise. I will continue to see him and recommend him to others. I feel as though people are being overly sensitive in there reviews. The world is filled with all sorts of personalities and we should be a little more understanding of those whose personalities are different than ours. If you want a good Dr. schedule an appointment with Dr. Barrett. If you are looking for a good friend you may want to look elsewhere.

Dr. Barrett has been treating me for Multiple Sclerosis for over 15 years. I find him extremely knowledgeable professional and attentive. He is one of the best doctors I have ever known. He has always returned phone calls and been attentive to my situation. I do not understand the negative comments as I have never had a bad experience with Dr. Barrett and have highly recommended him to others that need a Neurologist.

I only put one star because that is the minimum, otherwise it would be negative.  I was told, verbatim, "I am a little annoyed that you are here".  I plan to report him to the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  When someone goes out of their way to be that rude and unprofessional, the least I can do is repay him by reporting him. He made it very clear that we did not even deserve to be breathing the same air as him, and we were wasting his precious time. This facility as a whole is also a joke.  I initially had an appointment with another neurologist, Dr. Licona, but she referred me to Dr. Barrett because she said she did not perform my treatment, and to get my copay back.  Of course this was after waiting a month for the appointment an being told that she did perform it.  I got in on a cancellation with Dr. Barrett a few weeks later, but after he tells us that "we are lucky to be here", he says he is a little annoyed we are here.  I do not care how short on… neurologists Albuquerque is, this is unacceptable.  The thing is that he didn't have to be like that.  He could have said that he just did not want to treat me. The funny thing is that my neurologist in Union Square, San Francisco was never that arrogant.

Extremely poor experience! He actually said that he was "a little annoyed" we were there! We have been looking for ANY neurologist to help my wife as soon as possible with her condition to get treatment. We saw another doctor last week but he said it would be at least six weeks until seeing him again. There was a last minute cancellation with Barrett's office today so we wanted to explore our options. Dr. Barrett said there was nothing he WOULD do (not could do) to help us and that he was "a little annoyed" we were there to see him in the first place. We have been waiting over a month to see even one doctor for her treatments. We thought we were by getting two appointments. Turns out we were sorely mistaken. We understand its hard to get an appointment in this town but please Doctor, don't shove it in our faces. How disappointing! We want our money back.

I have seen Dr. Barrett on three different visits. The first visit my husband was with me. He went with me because of memory issues that were significant. He listened and was patient with us. He examined me, changed my seizure medication because the current medication I was still having seizures periodically. Once he examined me he asked a few questions and scheduled and MRI of my brain. I left the appointment feeling more hopeful than before. I was surprised to say the least that he ACTUALLY called me on a Saturday to remind me (knowing my memory problem) to call him directly with the name of my previous neurologist. He gave me his private number. Never has a doctor ever done that for me. I just saw him recently on an emergency appointment which lasted well past the 15 minutes allowed for an emergency appointment (in fact it lasted longer than my other appointments(. I have had numbness in on my left side of my face but the reason for the visit was that my left leg when I went… to walk didn't feel like it was there and I face planted my driveway and again the same thin two days later. I have constant "falling asleep of my extremities and he listened to me while writing notes and checking my medical records and even indicated that I had spoken with him about this numbness before. He took plenty of time to listen to me and arranged many tests for me. Some doctors have great bedside manner and other do not but I find him somewhere in between. Often the ones with great bedside manner are not always the best doctor. I've read the reviews and am surprised that this is the same doctor. I was very happy with him considering the close to a hundred I have seen throughout my disability and I found him to be thorough and attentive. so for those who had bad experiences, there must have been some reason for it. I do not have a diagnosis yet so i have not completed the review of correct diagnosis

This doctor should be removed from this practice he is an obnoxious rude not patient friendly with no respect for what the patient is going through nasty doctor. He is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever seen. We had an emergency to meet with him and during the appointment he had the audacity to be mean and angry with us saying "we are on his time not ours" because we were squeezed in due to cancelation and he preferred we called him and he set up a time to see us. This heartless money hungry poor excuse for a doctor should be banned to practice in such a delicate and important area of specialty. I feel sorry for any future incoming patients that get stuck with him.

I am not going back to this "doctor". I had read reviews before going but thought it was just disgruntled people talking. I was wrong. Dr. Barrett is totally rude. He doesn't have an empathetic bone in his body. He treated me like a thing, not a person. He has no people skills. He seems knowledgeable about neuro so he should go get a job in research. He should not be doing clinical work.

He's really great with my daughter that is 17 months with brain damage. He has been her neurologist since the day she was born.

this doctor was such a nasty jerk I searched out an opportunity to review him. I really needed his expertise on more than 1 occasion and got nothing - I'm almost sure he takes pleasure in his patients' pain.
