Dr. Douglas Allen Berv, MD

Dr. Berv provided exemplary care to me. Integrating details from past treatment, my current life situation, and allowing input from close family members, Dr. Berv cultivated a treatment plan that was far superior to any I had previously been supplied. He informed me of the rational for his treatment decisions and explained his method of analysis in assessing me. His diligence and dedication place him ahead of many of his colleagues. He has a stellar knowledge of conditions, patient presentations, and he possesses a care for his clients that sets him in a position to most ably treat those seeing him. I am immensely grateful for Dr. Berv's care and his outstanding ability, fine manner, and dedication to getting the best treatment arrangement for my situation.

Physician was unprofessional and continuously tried to push more medication with higher doses despite me stating significant side effects. Although stating my concerns, he wouldn’t listen and insisted on additional medications. He then stated that ONLY women should not drink alcohol because it causes breast cancer “as a fact” despite not providing any resources. His opinion of women drinking alcohol did not interact with medications I was taking and only had to do with my gender. At that moment, I told him I felt he was being misogynistic, he disagreed and said he was stating “the facts” that women should not drink or can only have 1-2 glasses of wine or they get breast cancer. From there I ended my treatment with him, in the 2 years I saw him I’m surprised he did not try to mend, reconcile or apologize for his comments and instead said “fine, find another psychiatrist.”

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Berv for over 20 years. I would characterize him as extremely intelligent, compassionate and very insightful on the multitude of issues he has addressed on my behalf. I have the utmost respect for how directly he responds to questions and concerns I’ve presented him over the years. His widespread knowledge and experience is unique. I have been a patient of Dr. Berv's for 12 years he is a great doctor. Thanks to Dr. Berv my attention deficit disorder is under control and i can live a normal life

My many years of care under Dr. Berv have turned my life around. While I am still battling mental illness and always will, my time with Dr. Berv has shown me that when you are lucky enough to find a good psychiatrist you should stick with him and above all be honest with him while strictly following his medical guidance. He is a physician who monitors a patient's physical and mental well being while very closely keeping a strict eye on a patient's behavior to insure that drug interaction and bodily/mental responses are controlled to minimize drug side effects. He has aided me greatly in being aware of the dangers of OTHER physicians ordering drugs that have dangerous interactions with each other and his own orders, saving me from or alleviating me of nasty side effects. I cannot recommend him enough.

Beware of any doctor who criticizes or otherwise expresses negativity towards your right to a second opinion. Also the review here that begins with "don't believe the negative..." was removed from Google because it appeared to be written by the office or doctor himself.

Dr. Berv doesn't choose my medications by what the label says it treats; he chooses them because he knows how they work. And when I say how, I mean understanding how they affect the brain's chemical and biological activity. I'm not given multiple drugs because one is labeled to addresses one symptom and a different one for another. Dr. Berv prescribes the specific medicines because he knows how they work together to address the root cause of all of my symptoms. He gets the best out of all.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Berv’s for over 10 years. He is a calm, thoughtful and caring doctor who has been of great help to me and others in my family. He takes the time to listen and asks great questions to get to the heart of an issue and explains why his prescribing certain medications. His diagnostic skills are excellent. We had a situation with a family member who was misdiagnosed at Yale New Haven Hospital and was not doing well on the medication they prescribed. Dr. Berv diagnosed differently and got them on the right medication and they have been doing very well ever since. We are very grateful for all that Dr. Berv has done for my family and I highly recommend him.
