Dr. Douglas Dennis, MD

My mom is nearly 92 and her knees are in bad shape. Moving is very difficult and this is why we are considering a replacement. My mother, father (92) and I traveled 35 minutes to get to our appointment with Dr. Dennis. We arrived at 1:00 p.m. for a 1:30 p.m.consultation with Dr. Dennis and did paperwork. At 2:00 p.m. p.m., a Medical Assistant took us back and took a few vitals and asked a few questions of my mom. Then, she left. . We found ourselves in a room with no one coming in at all for 45 minutes. So, at 2:45 p.m., I went out into the hall to try to find someone to see what was happening with our consultation. Eventually, Dr. Dennis' assistant, Fransisca Mascarena came in and asked what the problem was. We told her that we had been waiting for nearly an hour and that no one had even given us an update about what was going on. In what sounded to me like a condescending tone, she said "There is one patient ahead of you. Dr. Dennis is still with a patient, dear." We asked how… long it would be. She said, "We never know. Sometimes patients have a lot of questions, and sometimes just a couple." We asked whether there was at least an average amount of time for a consult — after all, we did have an appointment. "No, there's no average time. We just never know." We checked to see if we were understanding her correctly by asking, "So, it's just random? You just schedule appointments for people like us and we just cannot know how long we'll have to wait to see Dr. Dennis? Could it be another hour before we see him" She answered, "That's right, dear." After a few minutes of discussion, we decided to leave. These answers were extremely frustrating after our long wait. On the way out of the clinic, my mother asked the assistant Mascarena if she had gotten my mother's emails. (Emails requesting surgical information.) "I never got them," she said. My mother asked how that could be. "Maybe they got lost," was the reply. However, previous emails relating to setting up this appointment had been promptly answered by Mascarena. This whole experience was an outrageous waste of our time, and at significant effort by two seniors and a full time CU Department Chair taking time off of work to help his parents get information on a medical procedure. Both the unpredictability of the wait, the lack of attentiveness by staff, and the condescension by the assistant speak volumes about the professionalism of Dennis's practice.

WOULD NEVER USE DENNIS AGAIN!!!

As other reviewers have noted, Dr. Dennis is an arrogant and stuffy surgeon who has the classic God complex. Even worse, however, is that he does not deserve to be arrogant. I had a total knee replacement. During that surgery he used the wrong spacer - one that was 8mm thick. I had ongoing problems with my knee, which he dismissed as nothing. I saw another surgeon when the problems became unbearable - I could no longer take a step without my knee dislocating - and I needed a revision surgery. The 8mm part needed replacing with a 12 mm part - 11/2 times the size of the part Dr. Dennis used. Inexcusable.

Dr Dennis has exceptional surgical skills with a terrific support team who deliver excellent results. Dr Dennis is an experienced, highly skilled surgeon who performed knee replacements as well as hip replacements for our active family. Dr Dennis and his support team at Porter Hospital function at the highest level including surgery, anesthesia, surgery nurses, post-surgery staff and a dedicated wing maintained at the highest level in cleanliness and comfort. Patients are well-informed, follow-up care is excellent, physical therapy is highly recommended with a well-established group of providers combined with very short hospital stays and results are superior

Most arrogant, egotistical and condescending doctor I've ever met. Doesn't listen, barely allows a question, but lectures and makes sure you know how bothersome you are and how important he is. When post surgical problems arose, it had to be imaginary or my fault as "no one else" has this kind of pain or problems at this point after surgery. After 1 year of imaginary pain, gait issues, knee locking, swelling, saw another ortho doc who discovered there are real problems with size and positioning and am now a candidate for revision surgery.

I had my hip replaced two years ago by Dr. Dennis and I'm very happy with the results. I did the PT he suggested and followed his directions before and after surgery - so things worked great. He IS busy but his PA, Jim, was always available if I had questions. I'm now going to have Dr. Dennis replace my knee. He spent over a half hour with me explaining the pros and cons and I feel very comfortable with my choice. His supervision of the Hospital JR Unit - he runs a 'tight ship' and the staff there was excellent and responsive. Couldn't ask for better - hence - I'm going with him again soon for that NEW KNEE. It's a long wait to get a consult with him but well worth the wait.

He is an excellent surgeon. The pre-op and surgery went well. The staff was great. Your appointments need to be well in advance (at least made 3 months ahead). Post op the wait to see him can be as long as 3 hours.

This guy is beyond any words. The rudest, most arrogant doctor I have ever seen in my life. You don't want to have him treat you. He doesn't know how to listen at all

Dr Dennis came highly recommended. I've had other knee surgeries before, so had an idea of what to expect. His staff was terrible, very uncaring. Dr. Dennis seemed OK so I proceeded with one knee replacement, He insisted on doing both, happily I only had one done. The other is doing great now months later. Lots of post op issues, his staff, hospital, rehab could not have been worse. As he put it, my case was "complex", I did not fit into their mold. I have moved on to another Knee doc for followup and moving forward "preserving" and strengthening my other knee which allowing me to hike, bike, snowshoe and get my active lifestyle back after Dr Dennis said had no cartilage left. He may have once had a great reputation, but that must have been many years past.
