Dr. Douglas Wayne Heinrichs, MD

Strictly a pill pusher. Exhibits minimal interest or empathy. If you miss an appointment for any reason, you're charged the full price. No one ever calls to ask why you missed the appointment (like you're dead, ill, hospitalized....just pay your bill or you can't get your meds.) The office is in the dark ages. Forget online payment. They don't even take charge cards! And they have one, maybe two phone lines so you will get busy signals endlessly at any time of day or day of week.

Spends as little time as humanly possibly and charges high fees. When phone calls are necessary because of medication problems acts annoyed and simply directs you to make another appointment. It's all about the money.

I have been seeing Dr. Heinrichs for more than fifteen years. He always remembers me and my family and asks relevant questions about how all of us are doing. I have never had a problem getting in touch with him or another doctor covering for him in case of an urgent matter. He is extremely knowledgeable, and his office staff is lovely. I feel that I have received and continue to receive excellent care from him. Would have given him five stars if he took insurance and I didn't have to pay out-of-pocket.

Often forgets who you are and what meds work and which dont. Displays no interest in patients emotional relationships assembly line approach. Adverse to criticism Takes long vacations.

Dr. Heinrichs has given me excellent guidance and adjustments of my antidepressants & antianxiety medications for well over a decade. During my sessions to monitor these drugs, he also gives me excellent & compassionate guidance with any problem I present at this time.

This person is very vague as to an actual diagnosis. I saw him for over a decade. He changed diagnoses without any discussion;often forgot what he had diagnosed in the past. His attention span dwindled over the years. His interest in alternative therapies is nil.

Did not help at all

This guy is medication driven. Flips you from one drug to another, with little interest in long term trends. He became increasingly forgetful of details about me as I saw him over a period of years. He forgets what you are taking, or if you took it in past, claims you took a medication when you didn't. He is fond of shock therapy as a cure all, but is hostile to any questioning of its longterm efficacy. His office staff is nice, and waits short in waiting room However this doctor likes long vacations overseas and thinks nothing of disapperaring for several months per year. He may have been among the top in Howard County at one time. He is sliding down a hill. Stay away.

I am a social worker who suffers from depression. Dr. Heinrichs has worked tirelessly with me to help me find a combination of medications to help alleviate my suffering. He is a maverick who is extremely knowledgeable about medications, both new and old. I feel that he really cares about his patients. I have be seeing him for five years and would not consider seeing anyone else. I have recommended him to many friends. I feel very very fortunate to have him in my life. I am feeling great and he sincerely shares in my joy and cheers me throughout the journey toward health.

Dr. Heinrichs is kind, caring, and empathetic. Based on my eight-year experience as his patient, I've found that he's extremely knowledgeable about psychotropic medications but is always willing to be guided by the patient's experiences and opinions. I wouldn't consider using another psychiatrist.
