I have had a hematoma removed in abdomen 8 years ago . His staff were amazingly comforting .Recently I developed a new issue a mass in my abdomen he removed it Jan 2021 last week. He is confident, easy to talk to and so calm. The staff in his office were amazing /also the hospital staff were so kind at LIJ . I have many surgeries and I never felt this comfortable in a hospital . The nurses & Anesthesiologist two of them were awesome. Still healing and I will return next week for follow up . I am confident that everything will all turn out just fine after the healing . I worked with two different surgeons so I am very informed being in the medical field myself for 20 years . I drive very far to see only the best doctors in the LONG ISLAND, NY AREA. CALM , KNOWLEDGEABLE , THOROUGH AS HE WAS 8 YEARS AGO. Grateful I found him.

Stay away from him.Does not follow up,Does not explain the procedure.Does not return calls.Basically -he ignores you.

Had surgery with dr held on sept. 19th. Im in pain. He doesent feel like calling me. Didnt see me after surgery. Horrible surgeon.

Great person. Very kind and understanding and an excellent surgeon.

I don’t recommend this doctor, at all! He doesn’t listen to a patient’s needs and concerns. He is quick to say things are cosmetic so he can bill the insurance higher, and it will cost out of pocket. He is abrupt even while handling delicate parts and has poor bedside manner. Find another doctor, don’t waste time and money with this one.

I went back to Dr. Here's office two weeks after a surgery because I could not get a date for the one week followup visit. After I was seen by the very professional Medical Assistant, Dr. Held showed up about 20 minutes later to see me. He clearly was not prepared for my follow up visit, because the first thing he said to me was "Have I seen you before?" This was enough to tell me that he did not even check his notes before coming to see me. Needless to say, that was the end of our conversation because he ripped off the bandage and was ready to walk out. I followed him, and did not even speak with his receptionist. I am only hoping I will not develop any complication.

Dr. Held allegedly performed a hernia repair on my sister. She ended up with an infection while recuperating. She went to his office and Dr. Held pressed on her abdomen and the infection erupted from the incision. Dr. Held grabbed an examination robe previously worn by an earlier patient and placed it inside her open wound!! My sister ended up with a raging staph infection and was in a coma for 2 weeks. When she regained consciousness, she was not the same person as before. She suffered damage to her short term memory and was no longer able to do simple things like balance her checkbook. She was an avid reader but now found herself unable to retain what she had just read. My sister was obese and diabetic, but she was not treated properly. Who puts a dirty exam gown inside an open surgical wound?! She has left this life as a result of the debilitating staph infection. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS SURGEON!

I went into LIJ as an emergence patient when he diagnosed me with having an inflamed appendix and operated quickly. He said that it is usually an ambulatory procedure but for some reason unknown to me kept me in longer. I finally went home and that night I was in terrible pain returning to the hospital the next morning. I was then told I had an intestinal blockage and was hospitalized and had to suffer several different and uncomfortable kinds of treatment as well as additional surgery..He didn't take the time to stitch me up properly and finally it was corrected by another surgeon when I had to go for another procedure having nothing to do with the initial surgeries...I would not take my cat to this doctor let alone recommend him to someone else.

Dr Douglas Held performed two different surgeries for me, one was an abdominal obstruction and the second one was a hernia; I had excellent outcomes both times. He is professional, caring, kind, and makes one feel calm during very emotionally stressful times. I highly recommend him and feel lucky and very fortunate that he was my surgeon and will always be my surgeon.

I've had two surgeries by Dr Douglas Held and I've had a wonderful and positive experience both times. He's dedicated, knowledgeable, proficient, and kind. I highly recommend him.
