Dr. Douglas R Hoisington, DO

I was going to Dr. Hoisington for many years. He did surgery on my nose and had allergy testing done. Have been taking allergy shots for about 3 years. I don't have a problem with his medical expertise there, but...I well not go back. He does not require his staff to wear masks and seems to think that Covid is a hoax. I requested that the person giving me my shots wear a mask and when I thanked them for doing so they replied rudely. In the process of transferring records to another ENT. Simply put, I don't feel safe there during a pandemic.

Really wish I had read some online reviews prior to going to this doctor. Went to an ENT evaluation for my 2 year old son and the doctor (Hoisington) did NOT even take the time to exam him at all...said yep he needs his adenoids out after being in our room for 30 seconds by just hearing him breathe (without doing a exam). They had a nurse practitioner do a brief exam (after he had left the room). After scheduling the surgery to have his adenoids removed I was called a week before by the surgery center (not the ENT Office) and was told that their "new up and coming" surgery center did not take my insurance and would NOT be covered but it was fine because I could pay it out of pocket with their "self-pay" plan. I have great insurance so why would I ever do that?! I said no and the fact that they didn't tell me that they had switched to a non-covered surgical center was ridiculous. I come to find out that the "up and coming" surgery center is Dr. Hoisingtons own center that he just… started which is why it's not recognized in network to any insurances yet. I asked for a referral from Hoisington to another ENT doctor that would be in-network. I got a call backing say that he did not give out referrals to anyone else locally....ok, awesome thanks. This Dr. and Clinic are not helpful and very deceptive to patients. Very displeased with this whole situation and from these reviews I'm not alone I see. I do NOT recommend this doctor or clinic. The office personnel were equally rude, not understanding, and not helpful through this whole process.

Won’t ever go back! Waste of time and money! I went to see Dr Hoisongton for hearing loss. He ran lots of tests, including allergy testing and said I did have hearing loss due to a rare condition. He also said my allergies were out of control and recommended weekly allergy shots. I asked him if they would improve my hearing loss and he said no. Compared to some people my allergies are very mild plus hate needles. Told him I wasn’t interested in the weekly allergy shots and could handle taking an occasional allergy pill. I asked him what are my options to improve my hearing. He said that I was polluting my body with the allergy medicine and how can I put something into my body that could be harmful. I said isn’t that also true for the allergy shots!! I asked again about options for my hearing loss, he basically told me I had to figure that out on my own and left the room. Three thousand dollars and did not receive any form of treatment or a solution for my hearing loss!! Never went back… and never going back!

In 1993 he fixed my broken nose. Back then the recovery time of six weeks was almost unbearable. He walked me through it and was also able to identify and fix a probably with sinuses (I was missing two). Fast forward to the spring of 2017 when I returned after being sick most of the previous winter. I told him how I felt. He looked at the structure of my nose and face from his earlier work and saw everything was fine. But he had heard me and continued to find the source of discomfort. Allergies. How do you become allergic to milk and eggs at 63? Three months into allergy shots, my ability to smell has returned. My greatest joy thus far in this journey happened a week ago when I went into a bakery and for the first time in a long time could smell the vanilla, bread, pastires and candy ! I just stood there soaking it all in. I am in his office every week now for shots and have found his staff very professional,. He has also helped one of my previous clients and saved the… life of one of my co-workers who had a cancerous growth in his nose. We need more doctors like him.

I had a good opinion of Hoisington initially. He seemed considerate and knowledgeable compared to others. However, he eventually recommended a surgery foe which neither he nor the surgeon adequately advised me of possible side effects or complications. I have been suffering for several years now and can't get another surgeon to fix the problem which could lead to throat or esophageal cancer and also makes swallowing difficult. He would not take me back as a patient and had his staff do the 'brush off' for him. Staff was rude every time I was there, they leave you waiting, make mistakes with insurance, scheduling etc. I once had to fill out several forms and no one checked with me or offered to let me finish in a room, someone just came out and told me that they had to cancel because it took too long - after I had driven several miles to the appointment. They also said they would work with me on payments then refused to do so.

I have a special needs 2 yro that hates dr offices no matter who or why we are there. The wait was short, the entire staff was patient and very accommodating. They came in and had read his chart before they walked in the also knew of his somewhat rare condition(which never happens). He has also done 2 other precedures on my other kids he is very good, quick and amazing with kids! I would recommend him and the clinic to anyone!

When I saw this doctor right before my 4-year old daughter's tonsils and adenoids surgery and asked him why I have 2 painkilling medications and which one I should follow he simply yelled at me out lowed saying if I have not decided which medication I should follow the surgery should be cancelled right now. This is exactly what I should have done. Right now I feel like something horrible happened and I had not prevented this from happening. Right now we are using over-the-counter painkiller and it works just fine. Prescription painkiller is absolutely unnecessary and useless.

I would not recommend this doctor. I felt like he is out for the money. I received two additional opinions. He wanted to do three separate procedures - both doctors said great way to rip off the insurance company. He is why insurance rates are sky high. I called my insurance company and reported him.

He didn't even remember he took out half of my thyroid - he asked me who did it because of the awful scar. His male nurse is rude and does not even act like he cares.
