Dr. Douglas William Holte, MD

I was referred to Dr Holte by some people at Victory Christian Center. My first and only visit was not anything that I will ever endure again. He was getting ready to request my medication and he asked me for my insurance card. He looked at it and saw that he wasn't my PCP, and he freaked out. "He said, I'm not your PCP, I'm not going to get paid for this visit." I said, "Dr Holte I used to work for Blue Cross. I know how this works. I can see any PCP that I want to as long as they are participating on the plan." He wouldn't listen to me. He opened the door and got the office staff involved. He asked them to call Humana to make sure he was going to get paid for this visit. He said," that's $178 that I won't get. " I was so embarrassed. I just wanted to disappear. It was all I could do to sit and listen to him go on and on that he wasn't going to get paid. As I was leaving his office staff stopped me and told me that I had to sign a form that if Humana didn't pay him $178 that I would… pay it. This was over a year ago. I guess Humana paid him because I didn't get a bill from Dr Holte. I guess if he is your PCP he won't treat you like that but don't go see until it shows he's your PCP. I had it planned that I was going to change my PCP to Dr Holte until I was verbally attacked. I will stay with my PCP Dr Moneypenny whom I drive 25 miles to see. He hasn't ever treated me like that.

Nice guy I guess. I've used him for 4 or 5 years and not really that impressed. When I first start going to him, I told him I needed a prescription for Acyclovir. He was resistant to prescribe this common medicine and would not prescribe in the mg I usually take. Ok, then I got a fiddle back spider bite. He tried to tell me it wasn't and that I didn't need the steroid pack. I am an expert on these since my house had an infestation when I first moved in and have been bit four times at this point. Then there was the time I got poison ivy on vacation and called in a prescription for again, steroid blister pack. He flat out denied. I ended up going to urgent care, got a shot in my butt and a blister pack. The guy is a bit condescending and carries a self-righteous attitude about him. For you religious folk, he does have a check sheet that asks if you want him to pray for you. I guess they have a prayer meeting at the end of the day with each person's name? Ha, right!!!! … Anyway, I'm looking for a new doctor.

Not a bad guy, just runs a poor staff. Constant staff turnover. Billing errors. Tunnel vision treatment. Spends more time reading his charts that listening to the patient. Will only discuss one issue per visit. Wait times are sometimes as much as 1-2 hours. Very harsh with his words, question his treatment or service and he becomes agitated. Just doesn't seem to hear you. Sometimes left feeling like I had bee chewed out. I'm done paying for this kind of treatment. I sense the pressures of his office spills over into his lack of empathy for patient concerns.

I really like like Dr. Holte he truly cares about his patients plus the staff there is awsome especially Jody.

The receptionist is the most cranky unfriendly receptionist I've ever seen. The office is dated and old. Waiting to be seen takes on average an hour. There is constant in your face advertising to lose weight or get allergy tested. I'm finding another doctor after this last visit.

What a waste of time. He didn't even know what a lidocainh was. He told me to take 800 mg of ibuprofen. I ended up in the ER due to the ulcers I got. I had to have an ENDOSCOPY!! The Dr couldn't BELIEVE he told me to do that. I DON'T know how he can sleep at night

He seemed to care, maybe a little too much. He put me on some meds that I did not need. But I trusted him (a dr.) No more, as far as meds. So glad to be off those meds (by his permission).

I have never encountered a doctor like him. He keeps his back turned to you and does not ask questions or show concern. If bipolar or anxiety disorders are what ales you, be prepared to be treated like a junky. Especially if you need him to write prescriptions while you wait the few months it takes to be seen by a specialist. He has a temper, so tread lightly when trying to defend yourself. Be prepared to beg for help. Be prepared to feel shame, embarrassment, and hopelessness. He treated me like I was trying to pull the wool over his eyes. He was disgusted with me and he was obvious about it. He was more concerned about himself then he was me. He humiliated me. And if he no longer wants to treat you, he will give you an experience so bad that you wont want to come back.

I am a long-time patient of Dr. Holte, almost 20 years long. I find he is an excellent Physician. He manages his practise well, office and staff are organized; staff are polite and he is the kind of Physician you would send your family to, as I do. Most of all he really does care for you. He was referred to me by my best friend, also an excellent Physician and specialist.
