Oregon State Society of Orthodontics, Past President 1997-1998
Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, Board of Director 2006-2010

    American Dental Association

A Little History Behind Klein Orthodontics
In 1969, while Doug was still in Jr. High, Paul Klein and another local orthodontist invented Alastik ligature ties. These are the small colored elastics used to attach orthodontic archwires to each brace. This was a simple, but ingenious step in the evolution of orthodontics, but it had a huge impact worldwide. Anywhere you happen to be traveling in the world, if you see someone with braces and colored rubber bands, you are seeing the end result of an idea that started in our office years ago.
While growing up, Dr. Doug spent summers and after school hours working in the office doing pretty much everything from janitorial duties to assisting with patients. Along the way, it just seemed obvious to follow in his father's footsteps in the profession of orthodontics. In 1983, Dr. Doug joined his father in the Lake Oswego office where they enjoyed working side by side but also wanted to maintain independence so Doug opened a satellite office in Tualatin. Doug and his father worked together for 15 years until Dr. Paul Klein's retirement in 1998.
