Dr. Douglas Karl Mack, MD

I have severe spinal canal stenosis, severe nueroforaminal stenosis and bone spurs throughout my cervical spine. I have been suffering for over 15 years and used acupuncture, acupressure and chiropractic options for most of those years. In 2019, it worsened and I went to physical therapy. Now, I can no longer work because the pain is excruciating. I love my job! I worked hard to get my graduate degree and to get where I am in my career. I need to get back to work and support my family. But, instead of sending me to a neurosurgeon, now that the pain is significantly worse, he wants me to go to the pain management clinic. Furthermore, he treated me like a drug seeker even though, he knew I had exhausted all other options. He went as far as to lie. He said “all Kaiser doctors must give a drug test each time they prescribe narcotics.” Not true, my primary doctor, who has known me for years, had no problem giving me the exact medication since, he knew all other medications and treatments… had failed. Apparently, Dr. Mack doesn’t understand how embarrassing it is to get a drug test before picking up your medication. I had to explain at the check-in counter, to the lab personnel and to the pharmacist. To be clear, I do NOT want medication, I want the problem fixed. When a bone is broken, do doctors send the patient to pain management? No they send the patient to a surgeon. My cervical spine is badly “broken” and I need surgery. Unfortunately, Dr. Mack has no interest in restoring my quality of life nor is he allowing me to return to my career.

Dr. Mack is thorough, calm, attentive, and exudes competence. Takes a lot of time and makes appropriate test referrals.

Excellent doctor. Very knowledgeable and keeps on top of latest research. Interacts directly with the child he is treating. My son loves him.
