Dr. Douglas E Marratta, MD

Dr .Marratta, my Internist of 20 years, is a top rate doctor who is kind, patient, empathetic, always finding an appointment for me in times of emergency, listens carefully to my concerns, responds to all my questions, is highly informed on the latest medical advances, is detail oriented, and always offers the best suggestions for my health & well being. His assistant, Lupe, is also the best in her field-she is very kind, patient, attentive, reliable & responsible - always responding to my every phone call & request. I certainly have peace of mind with Dr. Marratta & Lupe & sm very grateful.

I have been a patient of Dr. Marratta for along time now, although I have had other Dr’s at Columbia, he is the best.He spends time & ask questions about my health issues. He is kind and patient, and treats me as he is really concerned about my well being. I llove having him as my primary Dr. , wait time is good, he is very thorough, he always ask if I need refills , do I have any problems getting my medicine on time., or if I have had any problems health wise. In my opinion he is the best! In my opinion, he is the best.

I was a patient of doctor Marratta for several years. During that time he treated me well w care, concern and exceptional expertise. Although his secretary is crude and leaves much to be desired the Doctors’ well rounded knowledge and consistent Excellent treatment of his patients overrides this shortcoming. Then a few months ago there was a mixup w a pharmacy which apparently questioned his prescribing practices, unnecessarily due to this mixup, but it apparently rattled him so much that rather than recognize that the source of the rx confusion was w the pharmacy and had nothing to do w me, he promptly and quite unexpectedly instructed his secretary to inform me in her crude manner that I needed to find a new primary physician as he was terminating our doctor/PT relationship. I asked several times to speak w Dr Marratta to discuss his drastic action which was completely out of proportion w what happened at the pharmacy but he consistently refused. I was quite shocked and left in… the lurch w no other physician on board. His refusal to speak w me directly to explain his actions and reasoning behind his termination of our relationship showed me a previously unseen side of him. His cowardly reaction to the pharmacies questioning of him and his abrupt dropping me as a patient as a result so as not to deal w a difficult patient need and, falsely perceived scrutiny by a pharmacy rather than working through the issue w me together as a team, proved him to be quite thin skinned and putting his concern for himself over the very real if complex needs of his patient. This shocking and sudden termination of our doctor/PT relationship and his persistent refusal to speak w me directly and explain the reason for his actions proved him to be none of the things I had previously thought him to be: kind, caring and concerned for his patient above all else. He acted selfishly, irrationally and abusively leaving me w very real and immediate healthcare needs and no one to provide them, and w no referrals which should have been done and is generally the appropriate action to take to ensure continuity of care. His office followed up w a letter, apparently a form letter used by the hospital in which I was accused of being abusive ito his staff, which consists solely of his secretary Lupe who in fact was rude and disrespectful to me and in fact hung up on me and refused all future calls and neither the doctor nor Lupe retuned my desperate voicemails after I left numerous messages. So I am left confused, and barely hanging on without a primary and have had to avail myself of urgent care several times since. His radical, inappropriate and unnecessary actions are totally unacceptable and not up to the standards one expects of a Columbia physician. If you have straight forward healthcare needs such as a required yearly physical or cold or flu you might do ok w him. Any needs more challenging than that you should definitely seek out a more reputable and ethical and exceptional physician. Dr. Marratta proved to be a tremendous disappointment as a physician and person.

HE IS WONDERFUL! SO THOROUGH AND SO KNOWLEDGABLE AS WELL AS CARING AND THOUGHTFUL. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PRIMARY DOCTORS AT CPMC AND HE IS THE BEST.

Good doc calls out of concern very caring review your history very well I'm glad to have him and staff

He really listens. He is responsive and caring. He is very low key and thoughtful. He knows his stuff, the latest studies, and if you are totally neurotic like me and ask him an off-the-wall question, he will tell you he will look into it, and actually get back you you. (He probably has enough neurotic patients already though, so if you are nuts too, don't spoil it for us.)
