Dr. Douglas Joel Mcdonald, MD

Dr. mcDonald nurse told me today that he will not write a letter to the Mayo clinic as to why he wants to take my hip off. That isnt right at all. I have a chance to be fixed and feel like he just wants the money to by taking my hip off. He has bad bed side manners too. Didnt even introduce himself to my husband when he was in the room. Just ignired him. And then they wouldnt give me pain meds after my surgery either. Dont recommend him at all.

Dr. McDonald and his staff did an excellent job of explaining eveything re my hip replacement. If I had questions, all I need to is call or email. I am happy with his conservative approach to recovery and feel it makes for a better outcome. He will be replacing my other hip in a couple months and I feel confident the results will be wonderful. A very nice surgeon with an excellent staff.

After being misdagnosed in my locale, Dr. McDonald diagnosed me shortly after meeting with me and looking at the films. Instead of rushing to surgery, Dr. McDonald took a more cautious and slowed down approach. Dr. McDonald took almost an hour answering my questions, and those of my wife and family. I was kept aprised of my prognosis and eventual health concerns. Problems arising out of my condition (recurrence, infections) were dealt with in a timely manner and I was kept aware of the situation and well informed of the possibilities of such after my initial resection. Dr. McDonald uses common language to explain matters and procedures and always takes time to answer my questions and concerns. On average, since my initial contact with Dr. McDonald, I have seen him, in office/hospital, 20+ times and always am treated as a person not just another patient. His staff is friendly and always willing to answer what questions they can. I not only would refer friends and… family to him, I have. And they have the same thoughts of his as I. Without question, Dr. McDonald told me of my condition and expectations for use after surgery and took steps to do what he could to give the most use/function of my arm. In speaking with others I know in the medical field, they are thouroughly impressed with the treatment I received and steps Dr. McDonald took to give me as normal a life as he could. I have no doubt that without Dr. McDonald's care and concern I would have little to no use of my arm. But thanks to his forethinking and "do all he can do" approach, I have much more use than expected.

I was not well informed about my hip replacement. This doctor will tell you NOTHING about his surgical approach or about your weight bearing status after surgery (toe touch, his standard order, which means no W B on your operative leg. Very difficult. Be prepared to ask him every question you can think of before he gets away. Do not be fooled by the mountain of printed lit his nurse gives you. It,s too general. And don'tt be intimidated by his stone face and cold demeanor. He is a good surgeon and that's important but if you don't know what you're in for you will suffer .

He misdiagnosed with me and then later diagnosed me correctly with cancer. During the misdiagnosis, he paraded me around in front of a bunch of medical students without asking my consent. He was late delivering the cancer diagnosis and fails to even examine the area in post-treatment follow up exams. I wait in the waiting room for long periods of time to only be asked on question by him "How have you been feeling? Any updates?" to which he ignores my responses.

He did not read my radiology reports which state I have a Mass on my right hip.. he took 2 x rays and barely glanced at my MRI and said "Much adieu about nothing, go home."
