Dr. Douglas Songer, MD

Do not waste your time even trying to get an appointment with this so called doctor. You have to fill out a lengthy questionnaire and wait for them to call you back. The doctor then picks and chooses whether he will treat you or not even though another psychiatrist (that Dr. Songer work in conjunction with) referred you for medication. He offers no explanation why he will not take you on although his website states all the different symptoms he treats. After reading the other reviews I think it is a blessing in disguise because who would want to be treated by such an uncaring doctor anyway? He probably just wants to treat easy fixes and go on about his day....

My daughter is 25 years old & has bio-polar two & is ADD. She also has PTSD due to massive shooting in the Oregon District in Dayton (she lives in the Oregon). One of her best friends was shot in the leg & survived the shooting. She really needed to get into a psychiatrist & called Dr. Douglas Songer's office as he was taking new patients. She had to complete a questionnaire first before she could make an appointment & it was up to the doctor's discretion if he wanted to see her. She messed around with that for about a week because the website was not working. She then printed it out & filled out herself & emailed to them. They did not receive the last page (urgh). She had to re-send again. Finally, they got back to her & decided they would see her. She made the appointment. On the day of the appointment, she pulled up on her phone the wrong Dr. Songer & the GPS took her to another Dr. Songer's office in Moraine. :( She panicked & called me. I called Dr. Songer's office… (which is in Bellbrook) to explain the situation & could she still come in to see him (would probably be about 15 minutes late). They did not give me an answer & would need to check with the doctor. The receptionist there said she would call my daughter back. She never did!!! I called them again & could not get through. My daughter called several times & left messages explaining the situation. No Calls back!!! :( Finally, I called the office again & got through to the receptionist she stated since my daughter missed the appointment she cannot make another appointment until she pays a $300 late fee!!!! Really!!?? What the heck! My daughter is a new patient that has never been there before! It's not like she was a previous patient or she was just blowing it off she really tried! Mind you, they never once returned her calls!!!! Oh I guess charging her $300 for her going to the wrong address is gonna help her with her treatment! She is stressed out enough & does not need this to add to her stress!! I proceeded to ask to talk with Dr. Songer's office manager (which by the way she was very nice & helpful----the only thing good about this whole experience!) to see if he could take in consideration the circumstances. I explained everything to her & what happened & she said will have to check with Dr. Songer to see if he will waive the $300 fee. She got back with me & said he said No & if she wants to see him she would have to pay the money first! Oh my gosh.....this has got to be the most insensitive doctor I have ever encountered! I mean come on......all he cares about is getting his money & not the welfare of my daughter!! Just Sad!!!! Don't waste your time with this so called caring Doctor!!!

AFTER SEVERAL YEARS SEEING DR SONGER, I AM EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTED WITH THE WAY HE HAS TREATED ME !! I TOOK XANAX FOR 50 YEARS AND WAS WILLING TO TRY TO BE TAKEN OFF OF THIS DRUG , BY TAPERING DOWN AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS. HE TOOK ME OFF THE DRUG COLD TURKEY, WHICH PUT MY BODY INTO EXTREME SHUTDOWN....I HAD TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM 3 TIMES AND WAS HOSPITALIZED, ALL DUE TO THE FACT THAT HE TOOK ME OFF THIS MEDICATION. I GOT THE FEELING THAT HE REALLY DIDN'T CARE WHAT I WAS GOING THROUGH PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY. I HAD TAKEN THIS DRUG SINCE I WAS 21 YEARS YEARS OLD I AM NOW 69. I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT HE HAS DONE TO MY LIFE.... I ALSO BELIEVE, BECAUSE OF THE OPIOD CRISIS, HE JUST DIDN'T WANT TO PRESCRIBE IT BECAUSE, PERHAPS HE DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE THAT DRUG ON HIS RECORD!!! WHILE I WAS HOSPITALIZED, THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER...VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS DOCTOR !!!

After close to s 2 week process of having them send you paperwork, you filling it out and sending it back, Dr Songer then decides whether or not he will take you. When your in sever depression, 2 weeks is a long time. After that 2 weeks, he said he couldn't take us, even though his specialty is depression and anxiety, plus our insurance covers him. So with no reason why, they said we can't take you. So the long process of finding another doctor starts over. Also at the time his site said accepting new patients. They could have just said no with the first phone call to them. I am very disappointed with this doctor and would not suggest others go.

Dr. Songer's receptionist, Carla is extremely rude and blunt. She claims she works long hours but that does not mean you can be rude to patients. If you don't like your job, get a new one. He is a nice doctor and spends time with you. He asks questions and does not make you feel like you need to rush.
