Dr. Thompson began his dental career at 18 years old, working as an in house laboratory technician. His laboratory experience fueled an interest in clinical dentistry. Over the next ten years, he worked full-time, completed the necessary pre-doctorate courses and was accepted to the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry. Upon graduating in 1996, he completed a one year hospital based V. A. Residency Program in General Dentistry. He then bought an established private practice in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where he still practices today.
Dr. Thompson has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education. He is striving for excellence and is on a path of continuous improvement in his daily practice. In 2005 he became a Mentor to students at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. In 2007 he earned the position of Clinical Instructor. Dr. John Kois leads this post graduate curriculum which is highly regarded for its evidenced based program content and the …impact it has on developing personal practice style.
Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Oakland County Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He received awards in achievement from the University of Michigan Dental School for Exceptional Comprehensive Care and from the Francis. B Vedder Society for outstanding achievements in Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics; both awards are given to only one person each year. Dr. Thompson has served at the Michigan Dental Association on a committee to serve the Young Dentist, on a Membership Services Outreach Program for Oakland County Dental Society and currently serves on a Membership Committee which advises the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. He also currently leads an interdisciplinary study club attended by approximately 50 dentists representing all dental specialties and is focused on comprehensive treatment planning.
