It is with deep appreciation and sincere admiration that I write this review for Dr. Doug Wisner, MD, an extraordinary ophthalmologist and surgeon at Wills Eye Hospital. Nearly 3 years ago, I was referred to Dr. Wisner due to a troubling and rapid decline in my vision. As someone in my early 60s who had worn glasses and contact lenses since 6th grade, I had become increasingly concerned that my eyesight was deteriorating beyond what corrective lenses could manage. From my very first visit, Dr. Wisner distinguished himself through his professionalism, patience, and depth of medical knowledge. He took the time to conduct a thorough, unrushed examination, listened carefully to my concerns, and offered well-informed, individualized recommendations. His thoughtful, compassionate approach immediately put me at ease. Following his guidance, I removed contact lenses entirely—something I had never done before—and began treatment with Restasis. The change has been nothing short of remarkable.… For the first time in decades, I can comfortably function without contact lenses and only require glasses occasionally, such as for nighttime driving. What is particularly meaningful to me, as a veteran of law enforcement, is the impact Dr. Wisner’s care has had on my ability to safely and effectively perform duties that require visual acuity. This past spring, I qualified—without corrective lenses—from the 25-yard vision requirement, a standard critical for safety and certification in the field. This was the first time in my career I achieved this milestone unaided, and it left even my colleagues-many of whom wear glasses- astonished. It is with great pleasure that I write to tell you all what an amazing doctor/surgeon/human being Dr Wisner is! I had my second lens replacement cataract surgery earlier today. He and his staff provided the most thorough visits I have ever experienced. Their office and surgery center works like a fine tuned machine. Everyone is helpful, pleasant, and friendly. Dr Wisner explained the surgery step by step. My first surgery a week ago, I felt nothing. The second surgery, I saw bright colorful lights, and a little pressure initially. Within an hour, I felt as though I had an eyelash in my eye, but after a couple more numbing drops and about an hour, the discomfort subsided. I am seeing clearer than I have in more than 20 years! No more huge halos, blurred vision both night and day, and no more haziness! Dr Wisner has a gift! I would highly recommend that if you aren’t seeing clearly, call his office and set up an appointment. Dr Wisner and his staff changed my life! Although I do need… glasses for close vision, I have worn glasses — even to bed since I was 5 years old. I can now lie in bed and watch tv or walk to the bathroom. How amazing! Please don’t settle!
