Pretty good and sympathetic doctor. Does a good job of explaining things

I have seen Dr. Cooper over 3 visits now, and he always treats me with really thorough care. I can tell he has thoughtfully considered my case and I believe he has the book smarts to know all the possibilities of what could be causing my illness and he is up to date on the treatment options. I have a disease that cannot be cured, but it can be managed and I've been getting great care from Dr. Cooper

I have been seeing Dr. Cooper for several years. I initially thought he was a little detached in his bedside manner. He is not gregarious and engaging like I tend to prefer; however, over time I have realized that he is wise and thoughtful. He is not afraid to share his honest opinion or to tell it like it is during tough conversations. He is very responsive to my concerns and is a great listener, his suggestions and referrals are always helpful, and we even laugh during appointments.

Knowledgeable and personable. Judicious in ordering tests and labs, I appreciated that he didn't just automatically give me a $10,000 work that wouldn't have changed any outcomes. Plan to keep seeing him through the course of my chronic and deteriorating disease

I saw Dr. Alex Cooper at the Madison Polyclinic for migraines. The first time we met he basically just listened to me and did what I asked of him, which was to run a CT scan of my brain and go over my medications to see if anything could be aggravating my migraines. He did not offer any assistance in treating the migraines but left that to my Primary to deal with. The second time I saw Doctor Cooper was to simply go over the CT results, which were normal. He did not offer much solutions other than to take less of my pain medications for my back as they can contribute to rebound headaches. He did not suggest trying any alternative migraine medications to see if something other than tthe pill form of Imatrex might work better during an episode. A few months later I found myself in a ten day migraine cycle to which he called in a dose pack made of a steroid to help break the cycle. It did not work and I had to endure a full blown migraine without taking anything. I didn't know what to do… as he did not communicate if I could take imatrex or not during this dose pack cycle. My Primary finally gave me a high dose 9 day course of prednisone which broke the cycle right away and I was able to go on my vacation while taking it and be ok. I expressed the desire for Botox or any kind of alternative medicine to try and treat the frequency of my migraines, 15 or more per month. He never said anything to me about being willing to do anything for me. The final ordeal I had with him was when I had to cancel an appointment with him the morning of due to flooding in my area. I live an hour away and roads leading out of my town were closed. So I rescheduled for a month later, I woke up with a migraine the morning of my appointment and simply forgot all about it. When I called the next business day to apologize and reschedule I was told he would no longer see me as a patient due to my not showing up. I explained that I lived an hour away, have a toddler, and simply was ill and forgot. The staff told me he didn't care and would not continue seeing me, in fact the entire neurology department banned me from making an appointment to see any of the doctors there. I was so upset, I have been seeing my primary and all my specialists at Polyclinic for 6 years. My entire family has used them as well, until now. The shear ego of this man really disgusts me, apparently I was told that Neurologiists are in school so long and so highly educated that they simply don't deal with patients "waisting" their time. I found a new Neurologiist closer to home after a lengthy search and upon the first meeting I was given a document stating a fee if you were to not call or show up to an appointment. This procedure was something I welcomed as it was a form of communication about the rules this doctor had for his patience. I think the Polyclinic needs to get a handle on the egotistical doctors and communicate the guidelines they want patients to follow. Also this doctor gave me several different meds to try to be sure I am using the best one for me, and is looking to get me approved for the Botox treatment I am seeking. I am very happy I am not with Dr. Cooper any longer.

Thorough, patient, respectful, and empathetic. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Dr. Cooper is calm, confident, and a good listener; everything you'd want in a great doctor. I felt I could talk with him about anything. He even called me to remind me about certain lab tests that needed to be run. How often does that happen these days.

I saw Dr. Cooper for changes in my walking and moving which ended up being early signs of Parkinson's disease. He was very good at explaining things and got me on the right treatments. I am glad he chose to come from the Mayo Clinic to Seattle to practice general neurology
