The office administration of this practice is horrible. Even though they require your insurance information up front they do not tell you that they use an anesthesia service out of network. For a colonoscopy a client ends up with a bill of almost $5,000 that is not covered by insurance just for the anesthesia. The procedure is another $1,800 which is submitted to insurance by this office in a way that it is also not covered. Our insurance covers colonoscopies for males over 50 every 5 years. This practice submits a code for a diagnostic colonoscopy which is not covered even when the above conditions are met. They are stating colonoscopies are only needed every 10 years. Why would they not tell patients this up front? It is not like people want to have colonoscopies done more than needed. Either avoid this practice or make sure they explain the charges to you up front before you have any procedures.

They don't tell you that even though they are an in-network provider, their anesthesiologists are not and you get a huge bill for anesthesiology. Avoid this practice, Reston Gastroenterology. They don't tell you because they don't want you to go somewhere else -- they say it's my responsibility. How do I even know who will perform the anesthesiology??? I assumed it would be them.

He's not a "people person ". He tends to make embarrassing remarks about clients loudly in public arenas.

Dr. Axelrad came highly-recommended by my GP. Unfortunately, my complaint is with the staff. When you call to make an appt. you get auto-answers, no matter what extension you dial. After playing phone-tag with their office, I was finally at my desk when I received a call back. Note, that if you are not available when they call you back, you simply get a message that they returned your call. Period! I spoke with a young lady about why I needed to see a Gastroenterologist. After approx. three minutes of explaining my most intimate symptoms, I noticed that I was on mute. When I said Hello? she came back on the phone, and then I heard people talking and laughing in the background. I also called a few days later, since my appt. was not for two weeks, to see if I could possible get in sooner due to some severe pain I was experiencing. I NEVER received a call back. This is not the type of doctors office I would like to deal with. Caring staff? I dont think so

Dr. Axelrad called me after hours to followup up on my recovery and make sure that I was able to see a surgon.Excellant response, can tell he really cares.
