Dr. Andrew W Messenger, DO

On my first visit with DR ANDREW MESSENGER for chronic low back and tailbone pain, the doctor crudely said he'd need to "look at my a nus" and might have to "shave off part of my tailbone"—completely inappropriate and unprofessional, with no medical justification. Standard care starts with history, external exam, and imaging; jumping to invasive threats like that felt like a creepy boundary cross. The nurse present did not react or intervene, signaling institutional normalization of inappropriate conduct. Other issues during my short time as a patient included: refused refills, sabotaged specialist referrals (confirmed by the office I was referred to—only incomplete labs and X-rays sent, with no notes or clinical context), ran 10+ superfluous metabolic panels unrelated to my inflammatory condition, later described by another physician as unnecessary, suggested dangerous treatment I explicitly told them on day one I did not want, then abruptly fired me as a patient the second I… mentioned my civil rights. These experiences resulted in repeated required visits that failed to address the condition I sought care for. It also required me to obtain additional X-rays elsewhere because only my left hip was initially imaged despite sacral inflammation, resulting in unnecessary repeat radiation exposure. After the clinic manager abruptly discharged me for asserting my civil rights, Dr Messenger personally called me after hours and stated, “we just don’t like each other.” I never said I didn't like him; I was simply asking for appropriate medical care my insurance was paying for. This personal, unprofessional framing of a patient–provider relationship was disturbing and inappropriate. He also mailed a letter banning my entire family from care, including my disabled son, who is an established patient with a history of two open-heart surgeries and a serious autoimmune condition.

There is something seriously wrong with this doctor, or he needs to retire soon. Steer clear if that's a trigger—this disturbed vibe screams red flag. The nurse present did not react or intervene, signaling institutional normalization of inappropriate conduct.

Dr. Messenger is incredibly rude. I have been a patient since I was a child (over 20 years), every time I go in he acts like he has no idea who I am. He is condescending, disrespectful and acts like he doesn’t care about me at all. Getting a prescription refilled or a referral takes forever and multiple visits/ phone calls. As my primary care provider he is supposed to be my advocate, he should be helping me navigate the healthcare system. Instead, he makes every process way harder than it needs to be. I’ll be switching to a new primary care doctor. After my last experience with his office, I will never step foot in his office again. Hopefully, my new doctor can help me manage my condition instead of fighting me on everything and/or making me fend for myself. I hate to attack the man personally, but in my option, he is also very socially awkward...borderline creepy. The PAs, medical assistants and receptionist in his office are very nice. I don’t know how they deal with this… man on a daily basis. The billing staff is incompetent. If you are a patient in this office, go through every billing statement and EOB with a fine-tooth-comb.

I had many encounters with Dr. Messenger when my regular Dr. was not available. He would regularly make odd comments, such as all fat people are really homosexual. If I entered his office , I always came out feeling worse than I went in. He would diagnose me saying I had a fatty liver, enlarged heart, and tell me I was going to die in my early thirties. When I asked what tests showed this, he replied he didn’t need any, he just had to look at me, even though all blood work was normal. From the previous comments I read, he still has a prejudice towards patients that are overweight. When HIPPA was introduced I had teens on my insurance. Never was I told that my children could sign a release so I could obtain medical information. In fact, my kids told me that when they went to an appointment with Dr. Messenger , he would tell them there isn’t any reason for parents to attend the appointment. The finally was when I went to him after experiencing a severe headache for 3 days, and… he didn’t order any testing. I was going to his office daily, I was so weak I couldn’t change out of my pajamas. How humiliating. I had to beg for testing, and had a cat scan and later spinal tap. Both showed nothing. He refused to do an MRI, saying he is treating me for Viral Menningitis. He gave me a spray to put up my nose that he said was just like Cocaine. 23 days of this excruciating headache until I called the Blue Cross and told them I needed help because I couldn’t hang on any longer. I did get the help I needed, and the MRI showed a blood clot to my brain. This was 24 years ago. I have told many people over the years that I will always wonder if his prejudice towards patients he deems as fat, do not deserve to live. There is something dearly wrong here, and I feel neglectful that I didn’t ever formally report him.

The entire office is incompetent, never get prior authorizations done in timely matter will think of every way under the sun to have you come back to get a refill . Charge a very high fee for visit ,billing office treat you like scrum . Incompetents from top to bottom.

Not impressed. He brushed off pain and wrongly diagnosed me. Don't waste your time folks. Find a different Dr .

If you want a medication filled why shouldn't you have to come in for an appointment? Not fair for them to waste time on you callers when im sitting there at the office and have to wait because people keep calling wanting medicine. Most likely people calling are the druggies or oh im so depressed and need my psych medicine people. get a life.

I took my daughter to see this so called "doctor" once because her regular doctor at the same practice was booked up. He was rude, condescending, incompetent and treated her very badly. I witnessed the exchange. After that I changed her to a different practice and when I got her records from this doctor, he had written all kinds of horrible things about my daughter in the notes about her "weird" nail polish (it was sparkley) how obese she was (she wasn't even overweight) and how she was trying to get drugs. Her regular doctor in the same practice had been prescribing a little pain medicine for her severe menstrual cramps. This doctor refused her a refill which is what I took her there for. By far the worse doctor we have ever been to and I wouldn't take my dead dog to him. STAY AWAy!!!!!!!!

Ok. I work in healthcare. Doctors have 15minutes to see a patient, that's it! Patients call and make an appointment for a cold but come to the office and want 100 medications filled and want their entire body looked at, WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL THE PERSON WHO SCHEDULED YOUR APPOINTMENT THIS SO THAT THE DOCTOR COULD ACTUALLY HAVE TIME TO DO THESE THINGS. Whenever this happens the "by the way while I'm here" that causes the doctor to get behind. I guarantee everyone who complains about wait times are the people who have those "by the way while I'm here" complaints. If patients were honest when they called to make their appointments then doctors wouldn't get so behind. Also when you come to see your doctor why do you have to give them your whole life story? Do you not have any friends or anyone else to talk to? The doctor is there to treat your symptoms not be your therapist or have social hour, this also causes physicians to get behind. Lastly if you are depressed/anxious GO SEE A… THERAPIST!!!! YOUR DOCTOR IS NOT A THERAPIST!!!!!!
