In 1999, Dr O'Hea diagnosed my DCIS. Although I thought I could have a lumpectomy, as I thought all breast cancers could be removed this way, he urged me to promise I would follow through with other opinions But he stressed that a mastectomy was the right thing to do for my type of cancer. He said I might find other doctors who would be less apt to do that but it would not remove completely my cancer.
