Dr. Charles Barry Dabbs, MD

I was referred to Dabb for cataract surgery, saw him at my optometrist's office in Fort Payne and given a date and time for surgery. Prescriptions and instructions were given to start them. I did and hearing nothing from his office, called them at 4pm the day before only to find out I was not in the schedule. Finally, getting that fixed, I was told by two people that my cost out of pocket would be $100 per eye. When I got there, I was measured then told to watch a video that basically is designed to convince me that what I needed was laser surgery. This would cost me $1500 per eye. I left. After conferring with my optometrist again, he was disappointed to learn of my experience and took it upon himself to call Dr. Dabb;s office, then called me back to say that Dr. Dabb thought I was a good candidate for the standard surgery. I received a final call from a woman named Jackie in Dabb's office. She wanted to reschedule me for surgery. She was being very hedgy and wanted to be sure that I… understood there were no guarantees that the standard surgery would fix my problem. I told her that I was hesitant because of the bad experience I'd had. She asked me to tell her about it. I did and she began arguing with me and essentially called me a liar. I have heard several people say that Dabb is a good surgeon. I wouldn't know. But I do know this. His staff is the worst of any doctor's office I have ever known.
