Dr. Cynthia Shannon Lin, MD

So in 2005, recently returned from a job in Iraq and Qatar, I took a new job that required I select a doctor for insurance purposes the first day on the job. As luck would have it, San Diego magazine had just release their "Top Docs" article and Dr Lin was on the list AND accepting patients. How could I go wrong? From my first visit Dr. Lin has been a partner in ensuring I'm aware of my health (both from a genetic, as well as life style perspective) and teamed with me to make sure we monitor everything without going overboard. She routinely calls to ensure I'm aware of test results, or the gentle reminder that she hasn't seen me in a while. Again, active health provider and not just sitting back filling out forms to get insurance money.

I was my first time seeing Dr. Lin. She came into the exam room, asked nothing about why I was there or anything about me and just went to my medication list. She told me what she would reorder for me and what she would not. Asked me no questions. She was hostile and basically lectured me on my medications that other physicians order for me. Some of those physicians were her colleagues from Sharp. I have been seeing an Ortho. Foot and Ankle Specialist in La Jolla and she told me she was a Podiatrist. I told her no she isn't, and then she said well I really are not familiar with the doctors in that area. I am not sure what that had anything to do with my appointment. She also told me that there are other doctors that would be into see me. I told her that I came for this appointment for her recommendations and I only got lectures. My blood pressure was up when the medical assistance took it. Dr. Lin said she had no more time and needed to leave. She did nothing for me but… give attitude. She was about to leave the room without taking my blood pressure. I asked her if she was going to retake it, she took it and didn't tell me the reading. I asked what it was and it was 152/94. I later check "Follow my Health" and she falsified the record charting it was 130/90. This is dangerous. I read all of the reviews I found on her on various sites and all the negative ones are just what I experienced. This is no coincidence. She acts entitled. I am an RN and I never experienced anything like this. She has problems and I would think she is dangerous. She has some positive reviews but I am sure with people that are not complicated in their medical history. They probably go to her for wellness checks. It has been my experience when someone acts that way it is to cover up their incompetency. I reported her to Sharp, probably nothing will get done. She has no compassion and I won't take a rat to her. If you care about your health and want to establish a professional relationship with your physician. This is not who I would go to.

Dr. Lin is always pleasant and friendly. Takes her time listening to my problems and answers my questions. The best part is she writes everything down so you don't forget what she recommends for you. I wouldn't hesitate going to see her. She is the best! The staff is excellent too!

I have had Dr. Lin for over 10 years now. She has always done a very thorough job with me and trust her expertise. I work in healthcare, and she is one of the most soft spoken easy to talk to Doctors I have met. She has excellent bedside manner. Would recommend her to anyone wanting a fantastic Doctor. Reading other negative reviews are hard to believe coming from this wonderful Doctor. She truly cares!!!!!

I have so much anxiety about Cynthia Lin's rude, dismissive behavior that I can't bring myself to make an appointment even though I need to. I selected her as my primary care physician based on her list of specialty areas, which included geriatrics. I wrongly assumed that someone who worked with the elderly would be a careful listener and maybe even compassionate. Instead, I've experience a decline in civility and a clear lack of concern for correct diagnoses or whether I live or die. She seems to have decided that Sharp requires her to see too many patients each day, so she doesn't care how accurate or careful her diagnoses are. She has literally told me things that are incorrect (I have read medical literature to double check). It also seems she really dislikes women. I plan to find a different doc in the system because I am quite sure that she could not care less about her patients.

Dr Kin ia always positive and smiling. I don't feel rushed.As we talk, she writes on a note pad the matters we discuss and her opinions and suggestion for care. The note info is given to me to take home for review of our meeting, enabling me to follow up on any suggestions she has made..

Very rude, not listen to what I say, writes wrong diagnosis on my chart which makes my insurance to think I have a pre-existing condition. She yelled at me when I pointed that out. Why? She can bill one appointment as 2 if she writes up stories. She over bills. So if you have high deductable insurance, be sure not to see her. Went in for my new patients visit, The first words she said to me was "Sorry about the wait." Trying to figure out if she's normally late so I would come later next time, I asked if she's normally behind schedule like this. She replied "I am sure there are plenty of other doctors whom you don't have to wait for. You can see them if you like." I was the one who waited for her for half an hour. Why was she mad at me?

Dr Lin has been my doctor for 7 years. I picked her because San Diego magazine had her ranked by her fellow doctors as a "Top Doc". Let me tell you, I work hard to stump her with my various ailments and she always gets me headed in the right direction to health. Don't go to her if you don't want the facts and data to support it. She is doing her job, getting you healthy. She always has time for followup questions and ensuring you are fully taken care. Love her!

I find Dr. Lin very caring and kind, sometimes missing in today's fast paced medical care. I have never felt rushed and her follow up is quite good. I think she stands above the rest and would highly recommend her.
