Dr. David Ian Dryland, MD

Very dismissive just wanted to diagnose lupus and give meds for that. He said the symptom list i sent him was "too long" so he didn't read it then proceeded to talk about my symptoms in a different and less advanced way; literally can't read or even listen to a patient with severe pain? He refused to do any further tests when asked and wouldn't even let me talk! Go elsewhere.

I find Dr. Dryland to be straightforward in his approach. There have been times where I have complained about something not working, and he tells me straight up, “Why didn’t you call me.” He is absolutely right! This is my disease, and he cannot read my mind. When I tell him something is not right, he gives me options. I recently was told I may need neck surgery, and he was clear he wants my MRI and does not want me taking this option without trying other interventions, then he gave me a list of things I can and should do. He is very direct, which I appreciate. He does not apologize for being more knowledgeable about my disease than my primary physician...there is a reason: he is more knowledgeable. He does not hold my hand; instead he places my care back in my hands. This may not be what some want, but I trust him 100%, and he does listen; he is just two steps ahead of what I tell him. When I send him a message, he always responds, even on weekends.

I genuinely caution anyone considering an appointment with Dr Dryland to, at the very minimum, take an advocate with you for your encounter. My appointment with this physician was disturbing. As Dr Dryland skimmed over the records supplied by previous physicians he consistently challenged their findings by looking directly at me and asking if I did, indeed, have that diagnosed malady. I am not a physician, and therefore not in a position to clinically assess the accuracy of their diagnoses. What I can say is that their lab-determined diagnoses and treatments led to significant improvement of my symptoms, and Dryland's casual dismissal, prior to any clinical evaluation, was deeply suspect. In addition, Dryland not only challenged diagnoses but also demanded to know if I'd tried Pepto Bismol or other over the counter medications to alleviate the symptoms. I had to repeat multiple times that I had endured the painful symptoms for MONTHS before accessing a physician's help. I find… Dr Dryland's brusque dismissal of my concerns deeply problematic. As I related to him, my sister was recently diagnosed with hereditary lymphoma. The presence of autoimmune dysfunction suggests that I must be more vigilant, not less. Frankly, I find it phenomenally irresponsible for a physician to encourage a patient to ignore symptoms or option over the counter remedies for months before seeking treatment. I did not receive any help from Dr Dryland. Instead I left the examination room feeling confused and diminished. What concerns me is that I believe that this was his intention. Regardless, it is certainly inconceivable that his conduct was motivated by concern for my wellbeing. Fortunately, I am extremely lucky to have a phenomenal primary care physician and Dr Dryland's destructiveness will have minimal impact. I am extremely worried, however, for other patients who are subjected to his conduct. Judging by Dr Dryland's reviews on Yelp there have been more than just a few. Dr Dryland is not merely failing to help these people, he is causing demonstrable damage.

Good knowledge about lupus, great treatment

After 8 years of wondering what was wrong, he diagnosed and started treatment in the same visit. As a RN, I was incredibly impressed. He is kind, thorough, and has a conversation with you, not a lecture directed at you. What a gem.
