Dr. Derek Heinrich Keller

During labor, my wife, who suffers from severe anxiety, had a bad reaction to pain meds that were administered by the RN. After finding our way through that, the epidural was administered by Dr. Keller. My wife’s blood pressure was low, and Dr. Keller notified us that he would be administering epinephrine to boost that up. Worrying that it may trigger another panic attack, we proceed to ask him to stop and explain what was going on because he wasn’t privy to her anxiety. He then stated that he “would not be taking medical advice from a laboring mother,” and “I can’t explain every drug that I’m administering to a patient.” The latter is most baffling given that it would blatantly be a part of your job to explain that information, especially upon request. Ultimately, the staff at Newport hospital was exceptional and we enjoyed our stay with them... however, Dr. Keller could probably display a bit more patience and develop some bedside manner in times of stress.
