Dr. Douglas Joaquim Tangel, MD

Dr Tangel really didn't listen. My father was under his care at Hays Medical. He had pneumonia resulting from aspiration. He was weak from not getting fed and thirsty. And there was no clear instructions left for the nurses, they had to call around to get info to determine when they let him eat n drink. He was also excited when he was able to take a shower. Dr Tangel came to visit my father prior to a procedure. I sat next to my father with my back towards the DR. I had no need to turn to face him since my attention was for the care of my father. Plus he was there to talk to him.. apparently he disliked having my back towards him and he poked me sternly in my ribs to get my attention. First and foremost, you should never touch a patients family... And he could've easily asked politely. Definitely poor doctor etiquette. Also there were hardly enough care on the second floor care unit. A fault of Hays Medical. In addition, that floor was not well managed. I stood around the hallway… while my father was using the restroom and noticed very minimal nurses on staff. No sense of urgency. And a patient a few doors down was calling for help and no one came rushing. Very sad. Back to my father; When you have an aspirating patient, you should properly manage feeding them while watching them. My father, had a special condition, he had esophageal surgery which shortened his esophagus and who was recovering. He required more than standard feeding guidance. Prior to the scoping procedure Dr Tangel has schedule to remove some obstruction from his lung, my father's wish was not to be placed on the ventilator, and asked for the oxygen mask instead. And if things didn't go well... He didn't want to be placed on a ventilator. My father had to watch his son, my brother, live on a ventilator after his accident and he knew well enough that wasn't what he wanted for himself... Unfortunately, His wishes were ignored. He was placed on the ventilator for a few weeks until I asked for them to see if we could take him out of this coma state and allow him to try on his own. By then his lungs were stretched. With his lungs being weak, Dr Tangel stated he needed to scope his lungs not to long after his recovery from sedation. I walked in to see all the staff doing CPR on my father and I watched the staff, while doing CPR, laughing about something they were casually joking about during the whole process. Dr Tangel moments later told me he punctured the lung and had tried to fix it? My father passed away that evening. This was a very difficult time for our family. Dr Tangels ignorance and hospital staffs lack of care and attention was extremely poor. I pray you don't find yourself under his care or the care of Hays Medical. We never saw him again after that night. He never came back to console the family. I will continue to post my story to ensure the safety of your loved ones and hopes that Dr Tangel and the staff at Hays medical takes a moment to reflect on his/their actions.

Extremely capable and caring physician. My interactions with him have always been positive and productive. Able to treat beyond just respiratory issues. Well versed on most medical specialties!

I was seen by Dr. Tangel in the ICU at Longmont United Hospital 3 years ago. I had a very complicated case and was seen by previous physicians who brushed off my symptoms. I am in my 40's and found myself consulting for a tech company in Longmont and ended up being admitted, scared out of my mind! I'm an engineer and have many physicians within my family. He patiently spoke to all members of my family intelligently and they all now hold him in high regard. He literally saved my life. I returned and now reside in Boulder. I make the trip to see Dr. Tangel because he has kept me out of the hospital with his expertise and thoughtful diagnostic skill and care.

My first appt. with Dr. Tangel was thorough and helpful. Although he made ocassional unprofessional remarks, he was positive and I thought I'd found my doc. On subsequent appts. he has been brusk, unprofessional, not listening nor explaining well. He is very casual with a sarcastic sense of humor. If you like that style, you may like him. If you are seeking someone sensitive and patient, he's probably not your man.

I was one of those patient that was not easy to diagnose,. Dr. Tangle got it on the first visit. I have been under dr care for over two years and he got it right the first visit. I am so appreciative. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.. Thank you!

I am a highly-educated professor of biology in her 60s who has had asthma problems since childhood. Dr. Tangel never let me finish a sentence, called me "sweetheart" several times, was very insensitive to a situation he could see was distressing me, and pushed me into taking a dose of a new medication on the spot without telling me what its active ingredients were (though I asked). It's my fault I took it, but it turned out to have an active ingredient to which I am hypersensitive. I was sick all night and had to talk with an ER Nurse, nearly went in but figured out how to get the reaction under control myself. Dr. Tangel is a good diagnostician but he knows this, I think, and this has led him to having a very large ego that makes him discount his patients' concerns and questions. I think he's dangerous to anyone who doesn't happen to actually fall within the parameters of whatever he thinks they need. If he makes a mistake, he and the patient will not know it until it's pretty much… too late. And then the patient is the one who will pay for it.

Answers all questions fully. Concerned, focused, personable, efficient.

I took my elderly dad to see Dr. Tangel after his hospital stay. His visit at the hospital was very brief but he seemed to know my dad's issues. Checking in was so fast that I didn't even finish reading one first page magazine. The nurse was really nice and pleasant. After she did her thing, Dr. Tangel came and took care of us right away. He made you feel like we were his family members. He joked with us and provided us things you request for. Dr. Tangel is a doctor that actually cares for his patients and would do above all to make his patients feel comfortable.

All he does is talk about what a great guy he is. Does not spend more than 1-3 minutes with the patient in the hospital. (I timed him 4 times)

I love Dr. Tangel, I've seen him for years and he is a good doctor.
