Dr. Emma Jean Patterson, MD

I had the RnY surgery with Dr. Patterson close to 22 years ago. I have happily maintained 100+ lb weight loss and highly recommend her as your surgeon. That being said, she is/was no pushover and wasn't going to tolerate any BS. The surgery is a serious one and it was important to her that I knew what I signed up for and the dramatic changes I needed to make to be successful. She had me go through all the steps necessary to make sure I was prepared for this life-changing surgery. I went through a multitude of physical tests and one, very important, psychological test. No one can prepare you for what REALLY happens after you get surgery. If you coped with 'Life' overeating, you must know that life will DRASTICALLY change. And it is TRUE that many people develop a different addiction once they cannot eat endlessly. So really consider making serious changes to your lifestyle BEFORE you get on that gurney! For the most part I've done GREAT and I still have kept 100+ lbs off my body. Dr.… Emma may seem 'tough' to some but it's because she cares and wants the best result from your decision to alter your body - because it WILL impact the rest of your life.

Had weight loss surgery and that went well. Was to be seen once per year thereafter. My mother got ill and needed 24 hour care which I alone was responsible for. I could not get in and they were aware of that. About 14 months from my last appt I started reaching out as I was having a great deal of pain at my port site. I was told if I could not come in during regular business hours they could not help me go to my PCP. I did as my PCP has Saturday hours and it is the only time I had someone available to stay with my mom. My PCP was concerned I had an issue with my port site and took some tests and sent them to Dr Pattersons office. The scan and blood test came back inconclusive. I again reached out for assistance asking for any tests Dr Patterson would normally perform so my PCP could order them and did this at the suggestion of my PCP. I was told if you can't come in we can't help you. Apparently seen at least once in the last 12 months you are no longer a patient and must be seen.… Funny when I am not suppose to even come in but every 12 months so if I am a day late with that too bad for me no support. I called and emailed on many occasions. I was beginning to regain some weight as I was under a great deal of stress and had to cook special for my mom. I reached out asking for a phone consultation with the nutritionist. I was denied. Mind you it was required for me to pay for a chunk of visits with the nutritional up front and I never used all of them I had paid for. But that didn't matter Collin denied any help at all unless I came in. My mother was 90 years old and wheelchair bound dying of cancer. I was unable to lift her all by myself and get her in and out of the car. I even offered to pay for phone consultations with the Dr and or the nutritional but again I was denied. My PCP simply is not knowledgeable about weight loss surgery and needed input from Dr Patterson. She received many thousands of dollars from me and this is the treatment I received. Now that my mom has passed away I am left searching for another Doctor that can help me. I will NEVER go back to Dr Patterson's office EVER again. Spoke to the office manager and was basically told you MUST come in once a year or we can't and won't do anything. They do not care what the situation. They told me it could be life threatening but still didn't care to help. My PCP has Saturday hours Dr Patterson who is quite a distance from me does not. The support they promise is bull if you truly have an emergency and can't come in. I also did not have$$ to get anyone else to care for mom as I had to quit my job to care for mom and that left me in a tight financial situation at best. I was however still insured.

I found Dr. Patterson to be a great doctor. He is knowledgeable and honest. I had a successful surgery, she showed care throughout the process. Her staff is also friendly and helpful. The only flaw I found in her practice is the nutritionist, who acted as I was wasting her time and who did not provide enough information at all. I give Dr. Patterson 5 stars, but her nutritionist 0.

Refused to do surgery as even though I had BMI over 40 I am not diabetic. Was explained would not even submit my request to my I insurance as waste of time and they would lose money helping me since I have OHP. Wow. I thought helping people was her goal not refusing because trying to avoid getting diabetes, not come back when you have it then we will help you. What crappy attitude

Enjoyed my time with this Dr. She was very professional and friendly.

I really don't have a big problem with her. She did the Lap Band on me and it seems to be working good. My problem is where she put my Port, it's right out in the front. It hits everything and is sore all the time, I just don't know why she had to do that.
