Doctor Nottmeier repaired a failed surgery that another doctor performed. It was like night and day. The day before my legs were numb and tingling. After he repaired the failure from another doctor it was wonderful! No numbness and tinging. He is straight forward and tells it like it is. He only performs surgery when you really need it. I went to Dr Nottmeier for lower back pain. I had images of my lumbar spine. Dr Nottmeier ordered a spect scan and told me my pain wasn’t in my lumbar and pushed me off to a ortho dr., RA dr, pain dr. Fast forward a few months, not going to Mayo center. I started seeing Dr Jenkins - First appt, he orders a mri of my entire spine and wonders why the neurosurgeons I have seen have not looked at my entire spine with unexplained back pain. Severe cervical stenosis. Dr Nottmeier wanted to put a spinal stimulator in my back when I told him I was going to Dr Jenkins without looking at my entire spine!!! Just from research, I know about the Lovett relationship in the spine. I was appalled and truly disappointed at the lack of care I received from Nottmeier and the Mayo Clinic. I expected better.

He performed a 'laminectomy' and left me with a very large, 4" scar running N-S, well off the left side of my spine. There was also a smaller, 1" scar, directly on my spine, about mid back. To this day I don't really know exactly what he did. I had to get him to treat the smaller scar as, after 6 weeks, it hadn't healed properly. I'm allergic to Betadine, told them as much, and NOT TO USE IT. They did anyway, which caused me a lot of unnecessary burning post operatively. I've since been to a much better neurosurgeon, whose performed two additional spine surgeries. He's asked me about what was done by Nottmeier, and stated that my incisions make no sense. Be very careful if you use him. I just found his disposition to be weird half the time.

Dr Nottmeier arrived prepared, on time, performed his exam, discussed his findings and further testing. He discussed a proposed plan with me pending tests results. He asked for questions. I appreciated his candor and professional manner. He is straight to the point, but prepared, always - he knows your history. He is conservative, but innovative. He has performed two surgeries on me before which saved my life. I feel blessed to have been introduced to him. He is one of the smartest people I've ever met, and he has your best interest at heart.

on January 7, 2016, Dr. Eric Nottmeier spent 7 1/2 hours in surgery on my lumbar spine. He almost rebuilt my spine. After months I have recovery and rehabilitation, I feel as if he saved my life. I can walk easily 1/2 mile to a mile, and up working on doing even more than that! I can swim, go shopping with friends, take many vacations, and, even though I need to stop periodically and stretch, life has started out even better. dr. Eric Nottmeier is actually rated one of the top neurosurgeons in our country and is known worldwide. As I told him, "you walk on water, almost"!

I probably only saw Dr. N for total of 10 min. Yet he had reviewed my files fully and it was his conviction that I could solve pinched nerve in neck problem without surgery and his recommendation of pain specialist that was the sole reason in my mind that I am pain and symptom free 12 months after treatment. He was there if and when I needed. Everyone else wanted to cut. I'm sure he didn't break-even on my visit, but with him, for a change, I don't believe that was what was important. Thanks
