I am 47 years old and have been a patient of Dr.Shiff since I was 18 because I have chronic hepatitis B. I live in Daytona Beach and there was a hepatoligist here who wanted to treat my Hepatitis B Dr. Shiff said it was a good thing I didn't take the Medicine the Dr From Daytona beach wanted to give me. I just started having minor liver problems but I've had this disease For 47 years! I will start treatment soon most likely

Dr. Schiff was instrumental in encouraging my husband Carlos Dominguez and I, his wife, that there was hope for Carlos through a liver transplant. He made us laugh on every appointment we had with him. Made us feel hope. He is a great caring doctor and the world would be different if there were many Dr. Schiff.

I met Dr. Schiff after having been diagnosed w/Hep C and suffered through several procedures & hospitalizations due to my primary care doc's lack of information on this disease. I had been told to "find a med center to get a new liver" & left to do the research myself with zero guidance. I first went to Shands where the Asst. Dir. of Liver Transplant informed me I had 3 months to live & then assured me of his ability to get me a new liver due to who he knew on the committee. This arrogant man did not look me or my husband in the eye even once and could not have been colder or ruder. My family was frantic & talked to everyone/anyone they knew to find a better doctor and Dr. Schiff's name instantly came up as he had been the physician for one of my Mom's neighbors who had had TWO liver transplants. I called his office, got my appointment & found him to be very caring & knowledgeable in liver transplant & Hep C. He told me to stay on my meds & return if something changed. Months later… when I called him, upset because of returning symptoms, he called me from his vacation to talk to me & arranged my treatment & schedule of testing to be listed on a transplant list if need be. He made these calls himself, reassured me about when,why & how to proceed. That was 4, almost 5 years ago and until recently I was listed at a major center nearer to my home. My surgeons have removed me from the "list" as I am still healthy & the medication he put me on is still working. I am sure that your mental state affects your prognosis and this Dr. was my angel. He is a teriffic doctor and genuinely cares about his patients - I will never forget his kindnesses to me during a very scary time in my life. He is a gem of a physician. By the way - all of this happened 4 years go so I thank God I met this man, and obviously that big shot doctor at Shands was WRONG!
