Dr. Huilan Judy Cheng, MD

Dr Cheng makes you feel at ease in that you know she is examining every aspect of your health issues. She is professional, friendly and takes the time to carefully evaluate you and your particular needs.

Dr Cheng very complete, able, thorough, experienced, follows up, polite. I'm keeping her.

Dr. Cheng has done two colonoscopies on me in the last four years. I have a history with colon cancer, so she was very caring with me initially, and during my procedure days. I chose her because she is bright, capable, and efficient, while also being reasonably warm and concerned for her patient's condition and concerns. She detailed the results of my procedures in person, and advised as to when to repeat it.

Not impressed. Waste of time, sorry to say, for me.

This is not an MD I will ever return to.. for anything. She was dismissive, condescending, and frankly remarkably unable to see how diagnosis of my particular ailment (which prompted both my primary care provider and specialist in this particular immune system disorder) led my MDs to advise I see a gastroenterologist for further testing. And the office itself is equally below par: I told the clerk when I called for an appointment that I had been advised by my MDs to see her. The clerk (again, the clerk vs an actual medical practitioner) told me to '...wait until you have symptoms...' thus trumping the advice of my MDs. Lastly, I found Dr. Cheng extremely difficult to undstand - her ability to speak understandable English out loud was not great. This plus her attitude of condescension bordering on ridicule drove me to go elsewhere. In fact, I told my PCP that I would rather wait another year for new MDs that may be in my network than endure this woman's poor communication AND… diagnosis skills.

I found and requested this doctor last Fall, when I needed to see someone again for a colonoscopy, based on my history with colon cancer. We had a good consultation in person, she discussed everything intelligently and went over options and why it was important that I do this again. I chose a date for the procedure, and although I hate colonoscopies, she made it as smooth as possible and did a great job. She was professional and I felt like I was in good hands with her. I also had chosen full anesthesia, and I had a woman doctor administer that for me as well, and she was also friendly and seemed trustworthy. I am calling her this week to have a consultation or phone talk about if I need to do it again this Fall. I recommend her if you want a smart doctor whom you can trust. PS: she recommended I go for genetic testing, based on my history with cancer, so I did. She made it optional,and let me decide. It turned out that I was not genetically predisposed to colon cancer, so it was… good to finally find out and be able to tell my family.
