Dr. Hyungki K Choi, MD

Dr Choi is known for being very thorough and he was with me. For each problem he listened, asked questions, ordered appropriate tests, shared the results, and provided appropriate treatment which sometimes included medication, and sometimes other treatments. He speaks with an accent but is easily understandable and you could always ask for him to repeat. He's always responded rapidly and appropriately when we've had a troubling occurrence. Very happy to be in his care.

I got the impression he enjoyed seeing the pain I was enduring. I saw him for 4 months and he never treated or diagnosed me. I saw another Neurologist and was treated and diagnosed within the first two appointments. He always seemed so angry and uptight!

Couldn't understand him when he spoke...quick to prescribe meds without regard to side effects .No real diagnosis just more meds. I did not make a follow up appt .

Dr. Choi looked at more than just my upward-creeping but still "normal" TSH numbers and figured out that the other 40 thyroid symptoms (including terrible brain fog and loss of short-term memory) pointed to low T3 and T4. I've now been on thyroid medication for a little over a year and my quality of life is better than it has been for 24 years. Nobody ever bothered to actually check my T3 and T4 before Dr. Choi decided it was important to look further than just the screening TSH test. None of my other doctors have been able to conclude anything except "chronic fatigue syndrome" or "fibromyalgia" and send me home with antidepressants or other meds that didn't help. I'm not inclined towards effusive testimonials, but Dr. Choi is the first doctor I've had who put together my long list of disparate problems and noticed that they all pointed in the same direction, despite the numerical value of my TSH test. My other doctors have been sympathetic and concerned, in some cases, and have… looked diligently for anything else that might have accounted for my disparate symptoms, since hypothyroidism had been rejected over and over again by the TSH test. Others have grown overtly impatient with my "hypochondria" and sent me for psychiatric evaluations. It is SO nice to be feeling thirty years younger now, and to have the energy to go for long hikes without having to pay for any type of physical or mental exertion with two days laid up in bed. And I don't have to take disability early retirement. This is what it feels like to get your life back!

I have only seen Dr Choi once. I waited 3 weeks to get in to see him and I was available 24/7 for any appointment. He seemed dismissive with me and did not seem to pay any attention to my list of complaints. I was referred to see him as 2 doctors thought I could have MS. He said I was too old for onset and moved on. Never once asking me for my list of symptoms that had the other 2 doctors thinking that was my diagnosis. But then before leaving he ordered 8 blood labs and an ultrasound and wanted to see me again in 2 weeks. So maybe he did hear me just didn't reply until he had more physical facts. I had already had an MRI.

I told Dr Choi about pain I was having that mimicked heart attack or at least heart related, mentioning that although I couldn't pinpoint what I did to cause it many times it seemed to happen after eating even just a very small meal. "Oh", he said "are you left handed?" When I confirmed I was he told me it was because of the way I held my fork! I saw a heart specialist on my own and guess what? 10 weeks later I had a stent implanted because of a blocked artery!! Of course I could have done nothing and accepted his diagnosis, had a heart attack and possibly died. Do not go to him

Dr. Choi is very knowledgable and courteous. He called me many times with any new test results. From the first appointment he seemed to say what was on his mind, which I appreciated. It was not the diagnosis I wanted but am glad he will be my Neurologist.

He figured out my diagnosis that no one could figure out before and found a treatment that worked. He listens and answered all my questions. He is the best that Eugene has to offer in terms of training and prior experience (Harvard). He is also young enough that he is not out of date as to current neurological meds and treatment options as some of the drs. here are ready for retirement or are foreign trained. He has a lot of patients for a reason, and he came highly recommended to me from another patient that had the same positive experience with him.

Dr. Choi saw us promptly upon referral from the GP. Waiting time was minimal.My husband has had 6 weeks of undiagnosable global pain. While we still have not reached a diagnosis, Dr. Choi listened carefully and took a very complete history. He was never dismissive, or patronizing. After a thorough exam, he stated frankly that the signs and symptoms didn't point in any clear diagnostic direction - a point that a handful of other specialists have agreed with. However, he did order reasonable testing (metabolic, MRI, nerve/muscle conduction) to gain more information. Dr. Choi never dismissed my husband's pain. He accepted both observations and questions from me and my husband during the exam. We were very comfortable with him and his way of practicing medicine.

I took my daughter this doctor over six months ago. She had whole body pain. His first comment was that in 90% of cases we never know what causes this. When I suggested Complex Regional Pain Syndrome...In his most arrogant tone he said, "That's why its called regional" and dismissed me. Guess what six agonizing months later, Stanford diagnoses her with CRPs. This man should loss his license.
