Dr. James Jude Bevenour, DO

Today I had same day surgery with Dr Bevenour as my anesthesiologist at Corewell Health (previously Lakeland Spectrum Health) in St Joseph Michigan. I’ve had several disappointing experiences with other anesthesiologists in this health network, all ignored by the higher ups while belittling me for my concerns in the past 7 years. Sogoing into this surgery today I was riddled with anxiety, lack of trust and all prepped and planned to walk out and not have the surgery. . If the anesthesiologist today was less. As I laid in pre op waiting for my OR turn, Dr Bevenour came to my room and spoke with myself and my husband. He took all the time I needed, answered every question with detailed and I formatted the language of his answers I understood. He did not rush me, argue or belittle me. He was no cocky like some professionals with degrees can be. He knew from accessing my chart prior to my surgery that I have special needs and allergic to a specific intubation medication. Rather than… put me down and use the medication anyway like past doctors have, he acknowledged the issue and was sincere about creating an alternative experience with minimal complications. This is huge for me as like any other patient with any medical experience, trust is a core requirement for continued better health. Without a good anesthesiologist, the surgeon can’t do his job. Mental health ties in hand in hand with good medical care, too. When a patient can go into surgery with peace of mind and relaxed about who is in charge of taking care of them, the healing process is greatly improved. I have had 27 surgeries in my lifetime including todays surgery. Today, I am recovering post surgery better than I have ever experienced in my lifetime. Dr Bevenour is smart! He knows his business. Some may find that intimidating however I personally find it reassuring. Anesthesia is not just a daily job for Dr Bevenour. It’s a way of life. And he navigates it well. It’s important to be be your own advocate regardless of the experience and education of the medical professionals involved in your care. A true professional will listen and help to create a plan that works for you. Thank you!

Horrible experience

This doctor is top notch! He is highly intelligent, interesting and professional. I would trust any of my family members with him. I see negative comments about negative bedside manner. However, I'm not there to make friends with the doctor. He is matter of fact but pleasant. His expertise is what I'm looking for. This is a high stress profession. I can't imagine what these doctors see or long hours they work. Thank you for the excellent care of my loved one!

This Doctor made an error with my medication. When brought to his attention, he did not care. Be careful.

Dr. Bevenour is not a good Doctor. He is very arrogant and treats patients with disrespect.

VERY arrogant, pushy. I would definitely NOT use his services again. Obviously looks down upon the uneducated peons of the world. Very imperious acting, looked askance at layman's questions.
