Dr. Joanne Que Lim, MD

This review is both for Dr. Joanne Lim and the office. Dr. Lim is a nice doctor, however she is impersonal and unorganized. She was never prepared when I visited her. The first pregnancy I went to see Dr. Lim, which ended in a loss at 9 weeks, she was flippant and did not offer any real advice. She told me that I could do a D&C "if I wanted" and that "it was up to me," even after asking her repeatedly what her medical opinion was, considering I did not want to wait long to try to get pregnant again. I felt alone and scared, and I had to make big decisions without knowing the full details of what was happening because she wouldn't offer advice. Then, she scheduled a zoom meeting which was about 4 minutes long, and the office charged for that. Could have been a short phone call. When I got pregnant again, I was obviously worried. I told her about weird symptoms I was having that I had not experienced with the pregnancy of my son, and she disregarded them quickly without explanation… even though I was clearly nervous. She did, however, tell me to stop the regular exercise that I have been doing for many years, throughout the pregnancy of my healthy son also, because it's "better to be safe than sorry" until the pregnancy was stable. When I asked for reasons or if she thought I was high risk, she didn't have anything specific to say, but encouraged me to "go on some walks." Again, if she knew anything about me, she would know how important exercise is to my mental health and that it was already a well-established routine. Her shallow reasoning for me not exercising was dated and not backed by science, and she had no concrete reasons. Every time I either saw Dr. Lim or talked to her on the phone, she seemed like she had no idea who I was and had not even read my charts before our meeting. One time on the phone, she told me that my hcg was at a 2, and that I wasn't pregnant, and I had to explain to her that she was looking at a test result from months ago and she didn't open the new results. She then said "well you are already on progesterone, so..." and I had to stop her because she had never prescribed progesterone for me and I was not on it. Very frustrating to have to be the one to help her stay on her toes. As for her office, whenever I call, they put me on hold, and it often lasts for 5 minutes or more. Frequently, I am disconnected, either because I was on hold too long or someone simply hands up. When I call back, I tell them what happened, and they say that they are sorry and put me on hold again. Repeat. I recently received a collections notice from an appointment I had months ago, even though last time I was in the office I asked if I had a balance and was told no. Long review over, but obviously- I do not recommend Dr. Lim. I paid more out of pocket (because of extras added to my bills) for subpar service with a doctor that had no interest in getting to know me.

Dr. Joanne Lim has been my OB through both my high risk pregnancies. She was careful and considerate of my IVF situations, my weight situations, my age situations, and my high risk situations with chronic hypertension and pre-eclampsia. She made sure I was monitored often and cared what I wanted and what my input was.

I love Doctor Lim - she delivered my first son via C-section in 2016 and my second son in 2019 via VBAC. There are still many doctors/hospitals that do not encourage a VBAC, but Dr. Lim listened to what I wanted and gave me her honest opinion throughout the pregnancy and let me make the decision myself. She has a wonderful demeanor and I was so impressed during both of the deliveries for my sons. When I was in labor, she checked in with me throughout the whole day and was there with me during active labor (even though my first pregnancy I was induced at 8 am and didn't end up having my son until 1 am the next morning via c section)! The ONLY reasons why I did not give 5 stars was because of the office staff and quality of the facilities. Some of the staff are nice and personable, but others just make you feel uncomfortable. I honestly do not know how they can keep their job with the way that they act and speak around patients. Also, it seemed as though the doctor was constantly… overbooked - I almost always had to wait to see the doctor. The office could also use a makeover/cleaning.

I must say no complaints from me. The wait is not long at all. Get in get out. Staff are always on point. Dr J. Lim is the BEST she’s very professional, always check for any concerns and so forth as a doctor should. Thanks for all your hard work :-)

Dr. Lim is extremely personable and warm! I was glad to have her ease my worries and walk me through the pregnancy. However her office staff is exceptionally unprofessional- talking about personal drama loudly where patients can here, and the front area plays COPS on Tv. It could really use a thorough clean and paint job. The office has dirt marks on surfaces and exam walls. It made me feel a little grungy and uncomfortable. If Dr. Lim hadn’t been so knowledgeable and kind, I never would have stayed.

After going back and forth about an induction at 40 weeks, she wisely made the call to have me induced at 38 weeks due to low amniotic fluid. She and her sister were there every step of the way and made sure that I stayed calm despite my history of anxiety. Her calm and kind demeanor helped me push my son out in less tine than I expected and I delivered healthy baby. Our pediatrician also commented that our son’s circumcision was very well done and I was relieved given that I have heard of other doctors botching the procedure. She was always available to answer my questions and alleviate any concerns.

I went to this doctor after a lot of research and based on good reviews - I wish I hadn’t. I’m new to the area and going through my first pregnancy - with twins. I saw this provider a handful of times and EVERY TIME was an issue. Once, they canceled my regularly scheduled 3rd month appointment and never told me, prescribed an antibiotic that at the next appointment it was found out I didn’t need (and they completely forgot they prescribed it), only ever had one baby’s paperwork at the appointments and we’d have to wait 15 minutes for them to “print it out” for the second baby. EVERY TIME. How do you just “forget” about a second baby??? The final straw was when they couldn’t find the babies’ heartbeats at my 4 month appointment and instead of being calm about it - wanted to send us to the hospital right away and made it sound very urgent. She said she called the hospital and they would get us in for an ultrasound right away, but when we went there we waited for two hours for them to… tell us that they never said they could take us right away, and we had to go back the following day anyway. It was the most terrifying 24hours I’ve experienced - and it was completely unnecessary. The babies were fine and she was not listening high enough. When I tried to switch providers, I filled out paperwork IN PERSON for them to release my records, called them to send them to the new provider 4 times, and also had the office I was switching to call several times. They NEVER responded, until my new doctor called while we were in his office and demanded they send the paperwork. All I had to say was the office I was trying to get the records from was Dr. Lim before he was on the phone - so if I had to guess, they must be infamous for this kind of care. My new doctor (through GBMC) is amazingand I already feel relieved about the care I’ll receive through rest of my pregnancy. Save yourself the unnecessary stress and lack of care - don’t go here. I wouldn’t wish the care I received for the first half of my pregnancy on anyone - especially for first time moms.

I cannot day enough wonderful, positive things about Dr. Joanne Lim. From day one she was helpful, professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy and Just plain nice. I had a beautiful, relaxed delivery and I credit that to her. My husband and I both felt relaxed and confident the moment she walked in the door. She takes her time and answers all questions without any judgement. We both joke that everything went so perfectly we are ready for six more kids.
