Dr. John Dee Bailey

I had issues with strain/pain in my shoulders and had spent 2-3 months previously doing PT to improve them at the advice of my GP, but after the 2-3 months exercise was still causing pain. Dr. Bailey was the only Ortho in Kirksville I could get in to see. I told him my history of pain and PT, and that my GP in the city had recommended I do PT first, that I had and it didn't eliminate issues, and that he said that imaging was needed afterwards if it didn’t help, to determine if there was an underlying issue. I told Dr. Bailey this information. He poked my shoulders a few times, then prescribed some anti-inflammatory's for 3 weeks (I had already been using NSAIDs regularly). The visit lasted less than 5 minutes - after waiting for 25 minutes to get in. At the end of the 3 weeks I still hadn't improved and went for the follow up visit. I asked about imaging, but he again poked at my shoulders and… re-prescribed the same anti-inflammatory's. I instead went to an Ortho in the city. He asked me a series of questions to gather information, and did a series of range of motion checks. He spent 10-15 minutes with me, and then ordered x-rays which were done in office. When the x-rays came back he determined there was some damage, and sent me for an MRI, which confirmed damage, and then he provided me several options (including additional PT). Over the weeks after I saw him, when talking to many of my athlete friends who had also seen Dr. Bailey with injuries or pain said they had the same experience with him, long wait times, poking the injured area over a very short time period, then prescription of anti-inflammatory meds. Don’t waste your time with Dr. Bailey on non-critical issues.

Went to Dr. John Bailey in Kirksville Mo. Feb.9th. to repair finger. He said he could save the bone! after his surgery it looked terrible, Didn't heal completely over till late May and then a piece of sharp fingernail grew out. end of finger is shaped like a U, have to go back in after second opinion by another Dr. for reconstruction surgery. So it is going to cost Medicare and Insurance for 2 surgerys instead of one. The Hospital did not give me a choice of choosing another who is going to do the reconstruction this time.

I am happy that he has given me medication to help with my pain but I feel he is a man of few words! Some of the staff are snobby I felt and they talk about other patients when they get off the phone with them.

Smelled so bad like alcohol and cigarettes I left as soon as I could.

excellent - down to earth physician

Wait time varies, Excellent about listening, caring, and letting you know what is going on. Fixing what is wrong with you as much as possible. Have been to many doctors in my past years and Dr. Baily is one of the better ones. Thanks for having him.

Dr. Bailey and his staff are superb. Every single thing (healing schedule/cycles) I experienced during my recovery was expected because he knows his stuff. He didn't project too far in the future, he kept me focused on the here & now in terms of what I could expect. Dry sense of humor, but funny & personable. The only negative I can say is that there is usually a bit of a wait for him to get to the exam room, but he is a busy doc so that's expected & okay with me since he's so great at what he does. His staff is so wonderful, sweet & accommodating. I felt as if I was visiting family every time I showed up.

I haven't seen Dr. Bailey since 2005 but I was always treated well by him and his staff. He operated on both by knees, and reattached ligaments in an ankle. He tried to help me with my back, neck, and joint pain. He was always very nice to me! I would highly recommend him to anyone!
