Dr. Joshua Ben Sussal, MD

Yes, Dr. Sussal was reported to the Board of Physicians because of not answering my repeated requests to get an appointment and refill my medication. Yes, that is abandonment of patient and it is in their Code of Ethics. Now something is to prove it. They found that they should not remove his license but they sent him a letter with recommendations meaning that they found something not right, not necessarily to the level of removing his license (which was not my intention anyway) but obviously Dr. Sussal needed to improve in some areas. I do not know exactly what you mean that it was not founded (English is not my native language) but if you mean that they found everything pristine with him you are wrong because they sent him a letter with recommendations. The fact that I stated all the facts in my previous email and all the facts here (no removal of license but letter with recommendations) should be proof of my objectivity. Now patients have different experiences with the… same doctor. The bottom line is that Dr. Sussal needs to answer ALL his patients' requests for appointments and refills and that, if he does not want to work with a patient, notify the patient and refer the patient to another doctor. And if he does not do so he should be reported to the Board again, regardless if he does it because he does not want to work with a patient or if it is that some people in his office are not efficient in what they do. The ultimate responsibility falls on him. And yes some of his questions are plain rude and disrespectful.

He will prescribe drugs after one interaction with the patient to keep you coming back. He exploits your mental illness via drugs. He is the complete opposite of a psychiatrist. If a patient of his commits suicide he doesn't care. He is in this profession for money and a status boost, nothing more.. Keep your children far far away from this man.

Dr. Sussal has been my doctor for several years. He has managed both my bipolar disorder and borderline personality with drug addiction on and off since I was 15. I am now 22. He has treated me with kindness and compassion by never judging my non-compliance, working with my family , countless early come ins to work because of my own instability and always giving me the options to choose which medications work. He takes time to speak to me and yes, he is direct. There are times I get angry when I ask a question and his honesty is not what I am ready to hear, but he knows his diagnosis and knows medications and knows how to treat you like a person. I am biracial , bicurious, atheist and learned to be proud of who I am , in part, from working with Dr. Sussal. Thank you Dr. Sussal.

I am a mental health professional and a client of Dr. Sussal’s. I am disheartened to read that patients ( if they are patients and not competitors or disenchanted employees) anonymously can write in one breath that they felt abandoned and in the next breath speak of race and then speak of the providers heritage in a pejorative manner. This is not feedbsck, it is slander and abuse . To write about a board complaint and than to write about how it was not founded speaks volumes of the fact that their should never been a board complaint to begin with. How another patient can write of addictive substances and how they plan to complain to the board but yet continue to stay with the provider shows not only poor judgment on behalf of the patient as they can go to their primary, ER, urgent care or call their crisis response team for guidance but also shows that they: never addressed their concerns with Dr Sussal who has fit myself, has considerable characterlogical pathology to voice their… care anonymously online and make horrible assumptions that any professional would make fun of a client which has no factual basis and clearly shows the clients insecurity both with themself as well to advocate if they even needed to in the first place. It is a disgrace that anyone at anytime can write anything about anyone anonymously or not without justification or verification. Dr . Sussal and his staff have gone above and beyond taking the sickest clients from hospitals , jails , homeless shelters, substance abusers and the abused and have given them care, case management at times, therapies and flexibility to allow them the care they deserve. I know, I am a provider of the high risk population and know the energy and compassion needed to help even one patient. I would hope that if someone feels brave enough to expouse racial and judgmental venom that one would address their concerns directly and not hide. I am sorry Dr. Sussal would even need to read these lies if he does and it is a disgrace to those who write slander so they can in some small insignificant way feel important.

He has helped my son and as a result our family . He is down to earth and easy to relate to. His is insight Keen and helps with concerns and needs while being very respectful. He saved us and continues to help . I highly recommend him

I have been a patient of Dr. Sussal's since he started his private practice. In my opinion, he is one of the finest physicians and top psychiatrists in the Washington, D.C. area. He cares about his patients. You're never rushed and he will always find time, extra time if necessary, for you. Please don't let his mid-30's age deceive you. Dr. Sussal is a wise old soul with a brilliant, state of the art, medical mind and a great bedside manor. He is the complete package of what anyone would want in a physician, regardless of specialty, but particularly in a psychiatrist.

Don't let his youth fool you. He is an experienced clinician with a caring heart. He's down to earth and very interested in doing the best for his patients.

I met Dr. Sussal 8 years ago at Children's Hospital in DC. He was doing his residency there. He has a very caring and kind person. he cares about his patients receiving the best of care. We went with him when he moved to private practice and we have not been disappointed at any time. He staff are very professional and just as kind. He is young but very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain in detail the care he will provide. Just because he id young don't let that fool you. You will not find a more caring doctor out there. He has done wonders with my son. He talks to the children to find out what he can do to help them. I'm not sure what went wrong with the previous patient but sometimes it is the inner person who has more issues than we think and we would rather shift the blame else where. You want quality care then this is the place to be!!!

Dr. Sussal is kind, listens to what I have to say and provides insightful feedback. He is an excellent clinician, easy to talk to, and very professional. Highly recommend him to anyone needing psychiatric evaluation and medication management.
