Yelp Review – St. John's Regional Medical Center (Oxnard) & Dr. Karan deep Singh I am writing this review to express my deep disappointment and serious concern regarding the care my husband received at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, particularly under Dr. Karan Singh, a cardiovascular surgeon. Over a period of several months, my husband experienced troubling symptoms—dizziness, fainting spells, unstable blood pressure, and significant leg swelling. These were clear signs that required thorough cardiovascular evaluation. Despite multiple ER visits and repeated concerns voiced by both family members and other healthcare professionals, his symptoms were repeatedly downplayed, and essential interventions were delayed. On May 18th, we visited the ER for severe leg swelling. He was prescribed medication, but his condition continued to deteriorate. His blood pressure remained unstable, and he began experiencing irregular heart rhythms. On June 11th, he was admitted again,… showing textbook symptoms that warranted a pacemaker evaluation. Dr. Singh only evaluated him in person after a phone consultation. I specifically mentioned that a pacemaker might be needed. He dismissed this, saying there were “no symptoms”—despite the discharge paperwork clearly documenting the exact symptoms we described. Shockingly, he was discharged the same day without any further monitoring. Only days later, on June 14th, my husband’s condition became life-threatening—his blood pressure and heart rate dropped to 30. We had to call an ambulance, and he was rushed to Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks. There, Dr. Yoruk quickly confirmed that a pacemaker was urgently needed. During the procedure on June 18th, Dr. Yoruk also discovered a malfunctioning stent that had been implanted approximately five years ago by Dr. Zager at St. John's. That stent had never been evaluated or checked since its placement. Standard guidelines clearly recommend regular follow-ups every 3–6 months after stent placement, especially in the first year. Dr. Zager failed to schedule any such follow-up, and this oversight, combined with the mismanagement of my husband’s recent condition, resulted in unnecessary suffering and potentially avoidable health risks. What’s most troubling is the consistent pattern of dismissing documented, visible symptoms and the failure to provide the basic standard of cardiovascular care. The fact that a faulty stent was only discovered incidentally during a life-saving pacemaker procedure is a serious lapse in care. This experience has taught us that patients must speak up, ask questions, and never feel obligated to accept medical decisions without clarity. It is vital to advocate for yourself or your loved ones, especially when symptoms are being ignored. I’m sharing this experience, so others don’t go through what we did. We trusted the system, and it failed us. I hope this review raises awareness and leads to accountability.
