Dr. Kiran Venkat Rao, MD

I went to Dr. Rao for awhile and he isn't any good. He wouldn't run tests and would just try different medicines on me without knowing a diagnosis. His office staff is gossipy. On my last appointment there, while I was in the waiting room, his secretary told my mom confidential information about my appointment, violating HIPPA. I was crying and spoke to the secretary right after it happened and she didn't apologize. I also spoke to the nurse about it and she didn't care, either. And the doctor didn't mention it when he came in for my appointment, even though he knew. That experience was extremely upsetting for me for weeks following and that was my last straw with this doctor. He doesn't even know what my diagnosis is, anyway. Going to him was a waste of time and the HIPPA violation was the last straw.

Dr. Rao gave me the wrong test results, which indicated I had Crohn's (he said this is what he suspected). Scheduled a colonoscopy for a month later. I took 3 days off of work: one for a last-minute medical clearance (his office called THREE business days before procedure to tell me I needed one), one for colonoscopy prep, one for colonoscopy. I paid a specialist copay for the clearance (my cardiologist), paid for supplies, drugs, etc. I was worried sick for a month. Did the whole prep (bland foods for a week, fasting the entire day before, drank the laxative [almost threw up], crapped my guts out, etc. -- just miserable). The day of, I had my dad take off work to drive me. They hooked me up to the IV and just as they were about to put me under, Dr. Rao told me my other tests were normal so this was to be an exploratory procedure. I questioned him because he originally told me my NOT normal and that's why I needed a colonoscopy - to confirm Crohn's. He initially said my inflammation… marker was 289 (needed to be under 50). He double-checked just before they started anesthesia and I asked to see them in person. They were ONE POINT ONE, not 289. He cancelled the colonoscopy in the 11th hour (literally as I was in the OR). After I spent hundreds of dollars on supplies, foods, drugs, copays, etc., took 3 days off of work and my dad took 1 day off, and I worried for a month that I had a chronic incurable disease, he essentially just shrugs his shoulders and goes, "Oops!"

Nice offices, friendly and pleasant staff, and Dr Rao is great - very easy to talk to. Takes the time to actually listen to you. Doesn't rush you out the door like most doctors. I would definitely recommend him!!

A good doctor but extremely poor on followup. Waiting 3 weeks for followup after colonoscopy. Too busy to see you or call you after collecting for expensive procedure.

Dr. Rao is awesome! I highly recommend him. I have Ulcerative Colitis and he's helped me immensely.

Needed emergency medical treatment by a GI doctor and hospital contacted him. From the time of emergency medical treatment he has been very compassionate and I received very good and thorough treatment. Office visit was also a very good experience. Feel very comfortable with him, he explained everything that happened and what he did, answered all of my questions (still have a little more but did not want to bombard him!) and did not rush the appointment. Office wait was only about 15 minutes if that and very clean. Office staff very helpful and friendly. I HIGHLY recommend him.

Very professional, thorough exam, explained test needed and explained results thoroughly.
