Dr. Leonardo Kapural, MD

Forget trying to speak to him. Not friendly, not professional, and absolutely doesn't care about your pain.

I was seen by this clinic several times, a different person each time, and only on the last visit did I get to see the lauded Dr. Kapural. He stormed into the room, introduced himself, and told me, without hearing a word from me, what he had determined I needed to do next, which was another procedure. When I told him I was not interested at this point in that procedure, and tried to discuss what I had come to talk about, which was concerns about contraindication with the medicine he had prescribed, he raised his voice and began telling me about how his way is the only way that works, and all my other doctors are incompetent, and (by god!) he's got a published book on Amazon! The longer I tried to get back to what I needed to speak with him about, the nastier and louder he became, until he was literally standing in front of me and yelling at me. In the end, he said (yelled) he wouldn't treat me any more, and yelled from down the hall for me to leave. I have seen a lot of doctors… over the years, and I have had some bad experiences, but this guy is at the top of the list. He has ZERO bedside manner, and he treats patients like we are subjects for research for his next book. He absolutely did not care about anything I had to say. For example, when I asked about the excruciating pain I had after the procedure they did on me, he raised his hands and said "Eh, it's muscle." And that was that. I wish I had read the reviews before I had come to see him. All the negative ones on Google are spot on with my own experience. Please beware of this clinic and this man.

From wheelchair to stair climbing in seven visits. Please see Dr. Kapural. You will find options. Your records will be reviewed by Dr. Kapural and his team. He and his team will provide honest answers. Be truthful. Reveal what your life is really like; yes, you can delve into very personal details. My advice: take it in written form to every visit. Hand your provider that little note of yours. Write, “my left upper back hurts constantly, will you arrange a trigger point injection if I qualify?”; “I want a spinal cord stimulator. Is it right for me?”; “I think I need a type of new medicine I read about. It is ( ). Is it correct for my situation?” You will probably only have one of these questions at each visit. However, I urge you to give your note to “Doctor” Mark or “Doctor” Melissa. It is your body. It is your responsibility to expose yourself as a patient regarding your needs, aches and pains. Be clear. Write it. That will reduce it to a summery of two to three issues of… one to two sentences or bullet points. Enjoy your visit with Dr. Kapural. Sydney A. Gambill

I had been going to Duke pain clinic because that is the only pain clinic workers comp would pay for. First thing after my case was settled I went and got a referral for Dr.Kaperal. He is the most kind,sympathetic,and brilliant physician/ person I've ever met. Even with the Crackdown on opioids his patients receive the medication they need. I now have a pain stimulator (Nevro) that he put in almost 2 yrs ago. It's incredible. I suffer from CRPS/RSD | RSDSA(type 1) I still take medication but I am finally off the Fentanyl. If it wasn't for meeting him and his amazing team I wouldn't be the person I am today.

Very pleased with Dr. Kapural and the office staff. Very caring people. Would recommend dr. Kapural to anyone.

Saw for about 4 yr saw 4 times if you want spinal cord stimulus he your man if not run.

If you do not rate this Dr.and all his staff a 5+, YOU have a problem and it isn't pain.

Run the other way unless you want a stimulator. This man does not listen properly, he does all the talking, insulting.

After seeing this Dr for over 5 years I have become more and more displeased. I have waited either in the waiting room or in an exam room on many occasions since he went back to Carolinas Pain Institute for over 2 hours--then I never get to see him, always a different Dr or PA. He continues to prescribe a medication for epilepsy to me to control pain. I am an Insulin Dep Diabetic, have hypertension and chronic kidney disease and this type of medication has severe life threatening results when taken by someone in my condition. I tried to explain this to him today but all he wanted to do was over talk me and insult me. I am changing pain management physicians to someone who will listen and who actually cares about the whole patient rather than just collecting my co/pays and scheduling steroid injections to manage my chronic spine pain. No more!!

Dr kapural started out to be a dr that i loved. As time grew his only focus has been to take me off of my pain medicine instead of helping me be comfortable. I was ran over at the age of 2. Born with a form of spinabifida. Have had arthritis since ahe 16 and have been on the same pain regimen for years. Instead of helping without question he just took away medications. So much for caring about your patient. Im looking for a dr that cares.
